Boots for spiking

I need some boots with a shank in the sole for working on spikes, butbi don't know where to start. I've got Chippewa and Carolina loggers, both do no good, 2 3/4 hours on a spruce the other day and my heels were in agony, the plates you can buy to add to Buckingham steel gaffe have way too many mixed reviews. We do mostly removals and I can't take the pain anymore.

Where on your heels do you feel pain? Bottoms, sides, rears? If the bottoms hurt, perhaps you might consider trying a pair of boots without a steel shank in order to let more weight bear on the arches of your feet. I ask only because I've spent 6 hours aloft in my Carolina loggers with no pains whatsoever. Good luck finding a solution!

I wear Chips with no problems on my feet. The high heel of a logger boot plays havoc with my bad hip though. I will end up with a mountain type boot that can keep a spur in place. Looking for a good alternative myself.
BTW I've had both shanked and regular soled Chips.

Reason I asked about the Spurs, I had some buckinghams, they were my first Spurs and I used them for at least 10 years. I didn't know that you could be comfortable. Thought it was just part of the game, being in horrible pain. Finally got sick of it and started experimenting, tried the plates and they were a lot better butkinda got in the way, long story short I use Kleins now with the angled Velcro wrap pads and for boots I wear Whites logger style. And I have found comfort. And the monkey beaver is by far the most comfortable saddle I've worn.

Try some of the buckingham full wrap velcro pads. The ones with the plate inside of them. I have a set of carolina 1922's and a set of buckingham spikes. They were not comfortable until I got the full wrap pads as I was always moving my legs/feet around funny to keep the top of the spikes from digging it. I'm a 210 lb guy so the pressure on my feet wouldn't be any worse than yours. I'm worn out after 5 or 6 hours but my feet are fine.
