Boom question

Hey guys. One of my new groundsmen accidentally was lifting the chip box while the boom was cradled… he thought was lifting the outrigger. Was able to yell and stop him before it was too bad. But he dented the chip box and managed to get the cradle housing bent. I checked the boom all out it seems ok. Is there anything i should look for or double/ triple check. Having an inspection come out to look it over in next few weeks. Kinda bummed. Think its ok to fly? Or wait till its looked over? Thanks

Between damaging the chip box and especially the cradle, your boom has seen some stress.
I vote to wait for the inspection. No need to for anyone to be in harms way.
Stay safe.

Whats your companys name? Is this Albany NY?

We’ve had that happen more than once on our trucks. The cradles are all slightly bent :/
Seems like it can be a common problem if not paying attention. Did you guys have anything looked at? Or back to business as usual? I asked a few local companies that I know. And they said as long as everything looks and feels ok. Run it. I have a inspector coming in next couple weeks but hate to postpone all my work in the meantime. Guess can break the climbing gear out. Let me know what you guys did please. Thank you for the reply

Altec or terex? If he was running the upper boom when he bent it I might be more inclined to wait for the inspection, of it was the lower boom that he was cranking on it with I'd probably fly it.

Terex xt55. From the looks of it it was pushing on the lower boom main piston. Not so much on the upper from what I saw. My thought were the same lower boom is solid. My worries were it strained the bolts on the rotation gear on the turret. Seems to me that’s the weakest link in the whole scenario. The boom was completely cradled and strapped down. When he was attempting to lift the outrigger. But was lifting the chip box instead. I put the boom through it’s motions from the lower controls all seems ok. But undecided if should fly prior to it being looked at

Ours are Altec. We continued using them after visually inspecting the boom and looking for any damage. Do you know how much your guy lifted the bed before he realized?
