Blocks vs pulleys

Hey all, just curious as to why you would choose to use an arborist block for rigging opposed to a rigging pulley?? The pulleys seem to be much cheaper

Blocks typically attach directly to you sling removing attachment hardware. Blocks generally are built to accept the punishment of rigging including the everyday shock. Pulleys are almost always lighter and more versatile in where you feel like putting them.
When setting up a rigging system I may put a block where it will be needed for strength and weight requirements and use a pulley (Omni) as a remote redirect due to ease of set up and it's weight. It's important to have both options available to you when needed because pulleys can't do everything and blocks are too heavy to drag to the ends of leads.

The reason I prefer the block in most cases is that it typically sees twice the load of the piece being lowered. The lowering device usually only sees one times the force that the load can deliver.

I assume you know about x rigging rings and aerial friction devices, @Scheffa ? Blocks vs. pulleys is moot, if you don't use blocks... I avoid using blocks wherever possible, using rings, omni pulley, and snaps instead. Sorry if this is a derail....

The rigging rings seem to be quite new here in Aus and not readily available, seen some on Friday in a shop for the first time, is something I'm going to look into more

Rings and safeblocs are readily available in AUS, especially online. The rings started trickling into my local production tree climbing shop in Florida this year. Don't haul a block around in a tree if you don't have to.

Definitely look into a dead eye sling with the safebloc for terminal rigging. I just finally bought mine for a dead pine removal this coming week. So glad it's on its way.

@Scheffa I used a DMM pinto pulley for almost anything other than negative rigging logs. Around here tho im typically not rigging all that heavy of material due to tree size.
I used the regular red pinto, with bushings instead of bearings.
Use it with a strong carabiner.
Some people would probably say what I did with it was too much for it, but I'm confident it was not. That's a strong pulley built to take weight.
That being said I'm aaallll rings now unless I need to lift anything
