Bjarne’s power wedge

There were a few small wedges that had their tips nicked by the chainsaw in the bottom of the ammo can of wedges. They really didn't work for felling

A little time with my bandsaw trimmed them down into mini-wedges. Nice to use for in-tree needs. A hammer can always be fashioned from a limb. Add a lanyard so they aren't dropped. Don'tmake the lanyard too strong. You don't want it to snap back and smack you

Lots of uses for the mini wedge.

That little blue Estwing is called the “Fireside Friend”. It’s useful to have on hand, but not the best wedge driver as the head is rounded and has no grip. It shines with stump cuts as it chops the dirty bark off easily and taps wedges for the final cut.

Just watched the OP video. I finally cut a plastic cutting board into wedge wide strips enabling additional lift without doubling wedges.

Also my in tree felling kit (for bigger wood) has two five inch wedges, a seven inch, and a Fiskars hatchet all on retractable tool lanyards.

They don’t hardly work as they are. Almost need split in half
On at least one of those dead tops in Bremerton, I used a short wedges plus 1/4"-ish stacking plates. The face closed without breaking, so I pulled the wedge and plate and nibbled the side of one hinge with a handsaw. I think I chainsaw "tickled" the front of the hinge to thin it (that was backcut-first, btw).

Would a gap face help with that?

Anybody ever watch Bjarnes YouTube channel? Every now and again I’ll throw it on in the background, maybe glean a little knowledge in the process…… he’s a very talented timber cutter, and works in some beautiful country. If you haven’t checked him out, I suggest it.
