Bits of tree work

Here's the first post with my new helmet cam. V.I.O POV HD. I did not upload to Youtube in HD. Future vids will be in full HD... I think!

Anyway, nothing special here. Just a bit of footage from a couple jobs. Oak prune, small clump of boxelders to dismantle, and part footage from an ash dismantle before the batteries gave out.

No music as I am still not sure how to work that out with Youtube.

Bits of tree work footage

great vid taylor, i always enjoy watching your stuff, you are a fantastic climber for sure.

love the very end, "Then the batteries died, the end."

Also liked the equalizing ringer you setup at the beginning of the removal, very nice setup.

I liked the beginning. Finally someone included the throw attempts. Kinda made tree work look easy. Thanks.

Yep, the equalizer was cool, and the sled.

Very cool to watch - thank you.

Could someone elaborate on what the equalizer ring accomplishes? I imagine it has something to do with distributing the load properly between the two crotches, right? And why is that preferable over just running your FS through the two crotches and running your climbing line through the two rings, i.e. no 3rd ring?

Seems like a really nice trick to have in the bag, especially to get a higher TIP in sketchy boxelders.

WOW the video quality was great. Wasn't sure if I was going to hold out for the HD but I am for sure now.
How do you like the whole packaged rig your on?
Hey nice set up and work too.

Great video. It makes me feel better watching someone else trying to get that better throwline shot. Good for you for not editing that out.
Oppasable
When you use the 3 ring equalizer it uses both lead's downward strength through the stem. If you use just 2 rings you will pull the stems together losing that natural strength the tree has. And it would bounce when you weight and unweight it

I always hit my first throw when the camera's not on! Yeah, right.

Thanks for the comments everyone.

The V.I.O. POV HD is a very impressive camera. The footage degrades somewhat over YouTube, but is still quite nice. Viewing the source videos is something else!
The mounting hardware needs some work, and be prepared to buy a 32GB SD card and lots of Lithium batteries!

The three ring FS is Teufelberger's "multiANCHOR". Depending upon the angles... it is quite useful to compress the co-dominants downward and toward one another. Without the equalizing ring, much more of that force will be configured laterally (especially when the climber moves to one extreme end of the system).

It is important to understand the vector forces involved with the given angles in the equalizer. "On Rope" is a good source!

When i watch the vid I was asking myself if you read "On Rope". Still one of my favorite reads. I see a lot of your rigging style and thinking in mine. Like the double stem block tie off, used it more time than can think of and you can get your anchor much higher than normal.

Great video!! A couple of questions, what is your setup with the PINTO pulley? Also, what is your SRT ascent system? Thanks again for the videos, I am constantly learning from them. Lonnie

Nice Taylor!! Loving the videos, keep them coming!!

One question, the Teufelberger rope you use, is it the one that is similar to 24 strand Tachyon or 16 Strand Hi-Vee type rope. Just curious, looks like the 16 strand version, but I could be wrong.

Casey is correct, it is the pulleySAVER. My single rope ascent system is the Rope Walker or Frog Walker. Search Treebuzz for Frog Walker and you'll find a lot of discussion and variations.

Hey Adrian,
Both climbing lines are Tachyon. One is orange with yellow tracer, the other is the CEClimb color scheme. As far as I understand, all Tachyon is still made in the US by New England Ropes.

Thanks Taylor, I figured it was Tachyon, just wanted to make sure, because the CEClimb color scheme of the two 16 and 24 strand ropes are very similar, so its kinda hard to tell them apart on a video lol. Nice work again bro.

Awesome work Taylor and very good points about the vector forces in climbing.
