Big Shot Launching Technique

[ QUOTE ]
While looking through Wesspur’s 2011 catalog a while ago, I noticed on pg 25 that there is a picture of a TCC competitor using a technique to launch his throwbag with the Big Shot that I have never seen before.

Scott Nyuli is using his Big Shot with the sling & pouch head inverted up instead of in the usual way that the Sherrill directions show. Has anyone else used this technique, and if so, what are the advantages? I haven’t had a chance to try this method out yet with my Big Shot.

I have always shot mine this way, like a kids sling shot growing up,it is accurate and i have broke bands and never been smacked in the face...yet

I've done it both ways. Horns up keeps the slack of the throwline occupied instead of flaking on to the ground. I've had those flakes get hung up on the forest floor or have inadvertently stepped on the line while readjusting the shot. Horns up I haven't noticed accuracy change but I've had fouled shots.
My boss told a story of some how not clipping the head into the pole right (or something like that), shooting the head down a steep bluff, and having to rappel down after it. Now we have a short piece of throw line back up as a safety for that situation.

One of the reps from Sherrill tree told me about a guy that tried to use a wood pole, it broke loose and pretty much took his jaw off.

I set mine up with a 2:1 mechanical advantage and capture so now it is easy to set and goes TWICE AS HIGH. The whole set up cost me less than 30.00.
After Tom's suggestion I have started using mine in "shot gun" fashion as well with the horns down. I get the visual cues and feel very safe with it, also because it is held up, I get abut 5 more feel of elevation for the launch.
Ok, just kidding about the twice as high, but I do like it better.

I put together a web page for it, most of the technique I learned here. I have lots of pictures so I just put a link to it. Link to the Bigshot I set up
