BIG RED OAK

I would install a new cable(s) at the proper height and location and leave the other cable attached. The cable is obviously old and some of the structural integrity of the crotch is dependant upon that old cable now.

I have cut some old cables during removals, it can be a very violent situation even with the brush and some of wood already removed.

I agree, at this point I would leave the old cables in and install new ones. Rich, I'm sure he meant "ascent" However, there's nothing wrong with a little..ok a big southern drawl. LOL, When I'm up nort we can discuss this over a pop.

Nice Tree, I am actually quite glad we don't grow them that big up here. Makes our jobs easier overall. I remmember when we got our 1st $1100 dollar 1 tree prune job, you guys must have them all the time! think we had 1 nasty cottonweed prune thats our record at $1600.

Sweet tree. Nice to have a crew up in the tree! We've got quite a few in that range. The taller ones usually have higher canopies. I've done those with a 2-man crew me in the tree all day and my grounds man doing alot of reading.

Love those on a summer's day!

i cant believe you guys have 3 climbers, im jealous of not only the tree but also that you have 3 climbers, now heres an interesting question, do you guys notice yourselves singing some of the worst songs while your climbing, songs you dont even listen to but somehow they are there, stuck in your head and heard for all to see?

Nice tree, big climbs like that are my fav. And ya, I have Duran Duran's Rio stuck perm in my head and I sing it like its going out of style....oh ya it is.

The other day it was "Knights in White Satin." Why? Why did that lodge in my brain. I heard some good old AC/DC that morning, so why was I hearing The Moody Blues?

Right now we have three climbers. What would be called A climbers, and all Certified. We've got one ground man ready to take the Certified Arborist test who is also a beginning climber. If all goes well, we'll hire another climber this year too. The Magic Marmount.
