I'd like to see more harnesses with lower D's. I think that'll make me feel better on skinny ass little spars on hooks.

I love my lower Ds on spars. Not sure how it works for guys, but having lower centers of gravity seems to really jive well with getting comfy, even on skinny shit!

Ok ladies. I am looking for some feedback on the two harnesses that we donated to the WTCW event. We sent a size 1 Onyx in a leaf pattern and a brand new model called the Monkey Beaver in a size medium. If you were at this event and tried either or both of them, I would like to know how your experience was. We will be at the arborist show in Sacramento this weekend. We will be debuting the Monkey Beaver with August Hunicke. If you plan to be there just find the New Tribe booth to try one out.

The WCTW weekend was simply fabulous; big thanks to all who contributed to the many successes.
The NT harnesses made the rounds, so I know several people got to try each one. I did not have a chance for either, but I can put those in touch with you. Ive been climbing in the ONYX this week a little. I'll have more feedback as I get to know it better, but here's some... I shortened up the bridge quite a bit which is how I prefer it and it's a lot more comfy. Still figuring out the legs straps for my optimal. Hanging with the leg straps right under the hamstrings is incredibly comfortable. There's a wide range of motion side to side, more than the TM but without the jarring stop that harnesses like the butterfly or Edge or any rope bridge where the ring "jumps" to try to get over the shackle, ring end. The back is really nice, stiff enough for good support and then I forgot about it, which is a good sign. I've only hung my pruning 192 off it, no problems there. For gear there are ample loops and rings on either side and back for saws. Seems to be easily customizable. I'll keep doing that and climbing in it to give you more feedback in different situations as they come up. Thanks a ton! R

Roxy, you didn't end up with my Onyx did you? If so then that 3 foot bridge is not normal. I had a Roll-n-Lock on there right befor I sent it up to Melissa.

Thanks, New Tribe, for sending WTCW the Onyx and Monkey Beaver saddles, we had fun trying them out and comparing notes. Roxy and Frax did a great job modeling them for us the first night, too.
I spent some time in the Onyx. Great things about this saddle: padding and stiffness of the waist and leg straps, the rope bridge, and buckles on the outside of the thigh. A couple changes that would make me even happier: a way to keep the leg straps from rotating outward, so that the support remains under my hamstrings/glutes (I tried crossing the leg straps where they attach to the waist in the back, but it didn't make much difference). Second, a mechanism to prevent the waist from riding up to my ribcage when I weight the saddle; this is an issue that I've encountered with many saddles I've tried and I suspect it's because my hip:waist ratio is higher than your average (male) climber/fit model. Thanks for soliciting feedback, I'll send other WTCW participants your way!

Funny you should say that I just bought 2 new Protos with Sena installed and my wifes head is too small for the adjuster! We may need to drill out the rivets and make it work? Have you ladies tried rock climbing harnesses? Super lite and strong, maybe not set up very well for positioning in tree work, but Ive used one and it works surprisingly well.

For what it's worth, my girlfriend has used my Buckingham "Pinnacle" (not sure if it was the Deluxe or the Classic but I'd guess the fitment is the same) for a few rec climbs and never mentioned any discomfort. She actually seemed very comfortable in it.
Personally, I loved that saddle. The stiff batten seat never bothered me and I actually liked the stability of the "seat" style vs a saddle with independent leg straps.
I should also mention though that I didn't like the steel components that the saddle has. The adjustment buckles got rusty fast and the steel rings for primary support wore grooves in my aluminum carabiners.

Love my tree motion! Tried a couple like the ergovation and petzl sequoia which either didn't sit on my hips well or dug into my ribs pretty badly, the tree motion still kinda presses against my hips and I have to pull it up when climbing every now and then but overall it's been the best.

If you are having an issue with the Treemotion sliding down on your hips when you are loaded down with gear, I suggest getting the Treemotion shoulder straps. Once I started using the shoulder straps I never went back to just wearing the saddle. It is especially useful when you are lugging a chainsaw. A bit of added bulk, but worth it I think.

Yeh setting up rigging and hanging a 46 off me for blocking down has me grabbing my tool clips and yanking my harness up allot. I'll have a look, putting in a HB order soon, cheers.

The Weaver cougar is what I use it's comfortable but it's my first saddle so there may be better ones I suggest trying on a few before she chooses

Obviously I’m a dude, but putting the Ergovation Y Harness,( suspenders) on my Ergovation made me not want to burn my new Ergovation & actually start liking it.
I wear suspenders when I’m on the ground so I might be a touché bias towards suspenders.

Word on the street is that NewTribe has a size 0 in the works on the ONYX. Should be great for the smallest adult climbers...

I tried a number of tree saddles and finally settled on the NewTribe Twist Adult (one size fits most). It is not really an arborist saddle, and more for recreational tree climbing. I am 5 foot tall and weigh 115 lb. It still rides up into my ribs now and then. I am now wearing a back belt under the harness so that the transition point over my ribs is protected. I tried: Onyx, TreeMotion Light, and NewTribe Tengu. On my Twist I also put my attachment carabiner through two places on the saddle which seems to help the way I sit in it.
