Best 20-25” saw for use in the tree?

Are y'all brazing these muffler ports/shrouds on? I recall way back when they first came out, that's how they were being opened up to breath..

Anyone know if dual port cans are being mass produced for these two saws? You know from an aftermarket like NPW or whatnot? Like they have for the old school 044/440/046/460/372/385/395's..?

I'd like to open mine up, but i don't have the resources to braze & just being able to plug & play would be nice. That way i can slap the stock one back on & keep my 4yr warranty... However I'm not sure I'll be strong enough to keep this thing out of a builders hands after previously having a built one. These things really scream when built right & user knows how to sharpen..

Walkers will build them for any saw pretty much yes! They did one for my 372, opened it up quite a bit and really roars! They are doing one for my 562 as well, I've got a nearly new 261 they are fully walkerizing right now. @squad143 just got his back and looks sweet!

Ok.. so basically any builder.. i got no beefs with Walker's, it's just that they are in "O' Canada" & I'm in "O' Say Can U See"... Not sure if it would make sense financially.. Although, i did buy some ball joints from a specialty company up there & it wasn't too bad nor did anything get hung up in customs...
I was running my stock 3120 yesterday, and thinking how amazing a Walkerized 3120 might be.
Chyeah! Ya think?? Better hang on!! That thing would doing pop-a-wheelies!!

Being on the BC coast, I have been fortunate to run a few different Walkerized saws, mostly big cc falling/bucking stuff so nothing in the top handle or mid size class but yes, the power in your hands feels goooooood. The man is something of a local legend among loggers and tree climbers.

On a side note, I believe you can buy new, modded powerheads from his shop so with our shite dollar, some of you American guys might not do too bad even with shipping and what not, but don't quote me on this, I'm just blabbering.

View attachment 51822 View attachment 51820 View attachment 51821 Just ran it for a bit on a 16" chunk of dead ash.
Runs great. Not loud at all, but does have a nice sound to it.
Hope it's got a screen in there.

OP if you liked the 254 but want just a bit more power the 555 is a very comparable saw for weight and handling and a bit cheaper than the 562. It's also a small bar mount so the bars will weigh less. A few of the other benefits of the 555 are the captured bar nuts, fuel sight glass, better filtration, smoother, and it will run about twice as long on the same amount of fuel, and I almost forgot the flippy caps (husky has the best flippies).
I have no experience with it in a tree, but I would choose it over a 562 in most situations. I run them with a 66DL Windsor bar(when I have one) and they are great as you can get around in cramped spaces with ease.

Z'sTrees for the win!. A 562 XP with a 24" bar will throw some chips like a mofo.
Yeah I got one from Mastermind saws specifically for use in a tree... Took the guy awhile to get it to me, but the thing tears shit up and sounds quite badass as well. Cost $1k just the powerhead. Can cut through a 20" oak log pretty damn close to my 395 at significantly less weight.

I think the neighborly thing to do would be to send that thing to me for a short demo! I promise I will treat it kindly?

I would but it's needed. Highly recommend that you purchase one, though. It's only 250-300 more than stock. Time is money. You'll make it back in no time. Just need a separate fuel can cause it takes 40:1

I have been running race fuel in my saw lately, and its making both my hot rodded 395, and the stock 550, 562, and 3120, all cut like raped apes. Made a significant difference.

Congrats on the 461.
What is wrong with the 254.

Not sure yet. Maybe carb or loss of compression... Guy said it would cost about the same as a new saw - so waiting to find out.

Struggling to find a good mechanic here in North Carolina.

Was done by Walkers Saw shop on Vancouver Island BC [emoji1063] Canada. Reg has had some done as well as others on here who told me to ship it there. They made a modded muffler for my 372 & (562 which is currently) when the 550 is started you get everyone’s attention! Triple exhaust ports it’s just an awesome awesome saw! The 372 is way livelier just with the muffler mod as well. I just don’t know how to explain it anymore of how amazing of a job and their quality of work is!

I had them do up a 357XP ! That saw rocks to this day! Perfect medium sized saw with tons of power! Of course all the power in the world is useless with a dull chain! Walkers saw shop is my go too place to get a modded saw. However, I have a hi top 288xp that they did and it wasn't a very good porting job. Maybe it was Friday? I re did that saw and its a friken monster! My fave by far!

Sounds like a perfect time to learn how to do a little work on it yourself, the 2 series saws are one of the easiest to work on, jug off in less than 20 min(blow it clean before starting any work on it).
Congrats on the new saw, that's a fun saw, the 550 is crazy fast also.
I ran my 562 yesterday, it's got a muffler mod and a timing advance, runs well.
What happened to the 461.
