beeline split tail problem?

Been here much more than a while

So a bought a spliced eye beeling split tail a while ago. It's the single eye 3/8 to use for a blakes hitch. The second time I used it I noticed it developed a "bubble" under the cover about 8" from the bitter end of the rope. Anyone have any ideas on what caused this? I've tried milking the cover around, even tugging on the core. Nothing is fixing it. Since it's the tail end where I tie the stopper fig 8 I'm assuming it's safe?

yes its not a prusik but a split tail. I havent had any luck with it tied with a blakes. It bites down really hard on the arbormaster rope i use.

evo,
Your using 3/8-inch (10mm)Bee Line?

This is the large Bee Line, should work OK with your 1/2" AM rope.
How are you tying your Blake's?

I'm taking 4 wraps, and tucking two. The hitch will slip and I have to keep dressing it, then at one point after hanging on it (just a lil) it binds...

I've started to use the vt, and just tied a fishermans on the other end from the splice to use it as a prusik. At this point I really liking the vt system(s).

Its biting down so tight because the blakes is (typically) best used on a rope of the same size. You've gone down about 25% of the rope's size when you went to the 10mm beeline.

Step up the fatness of your split tail and I think your problems will go away. (well...this one will!)

Hard to say whether it's 'safe' or not without a pic. Sounds like the core bunched up, so the tail end must be stitched or whipped. If it's not, pull the core out to eliminate the bunching of the core.
Anyway you can post a pic? I wouldn't use it til we get a visual.

i had the same problem with 10mm beeline, the one with the red tracer. the core bunched up, and a pregnant bulge started to come out of the weave on the sheath. no matter how hard i tried,i couldnt massage flat. i returned it, and they replaced it with an eye to eye with a yellow tracer. after that one was done, i switched back to 8mm, seems to wear better, and longer...

good to know. Ill keep it since the bulge is on the tail end and gets sucked into the stopper knot. I'm wondering if someone tried splicing it from that end first... I hardly ever use it

Yeah, had a similar problem with an ice eye & eye tail. But the mine the bulge found itself somewhere in the middle of my VT. This made the cord wear quicker at that point and i just had to retire it. So, if there is any friction happening at that bulge, be mindful of wear.

the cord has been long retired into a saw strap. using the single eye with a blakes just created too many binding issues due to rope diameters. Thanks for the heads up though
