Basic speedline

Pictures from part of today's job. Scotch pine with no access. Couldn't get a crane to it due to over-arching trees in the driveway. Humped out the brush and used a simple speedline to move the logs.

Anchored to another P. sylvestris on the downhill side. Floating block in a green ash on the uphill. Run through a GRCS for tension.

Last one.

Petzl 'love' pulley for the carriage and I finally got to use last year's birthday present (Petzl rigging plate) for the interface. 3/8 Yalex for the sling and a pull-rope to help the logs through the belly and onto level ground. Used a sled to pull'em through the snow and out to the truck. Jim left the GEHL at home!

It sure is nice when you can do stuff like that saves all the back aches. I've used similar set ups to get trees out of creek beds. Sometimes it takes a bit to set up, but OH how sweet once it is.

Thanks, it took 40 min. to setup and move the logs. Would've taken at least 20 min. to move by hand, plus a sore back! Well worth it indeed.

Man power to pull the tagline, not a problem as the speedline was relatively flat.

Sorry to inturrupt TL, I mean to say nice speedline. The first thing I thought of when I saw those stairs was my knees! Thanks for posting the pics, I'm a visual learner so seeing it makes me want to try it.

I know true landscapers wouldn't get mad at that comment; we tend to pick on each other...
