Bandit LCD screen

evo

Been here much more than a while
Location
My Island, WA
Wondering if anyone here has experience with their LCD screen going blank. It’s back lit but not displaying anything what so ever.

Called Bandit and they sounded clueless, just told me to contact a dealer. Called the company I bought the chipper through and they no longer deal with bandit, nor have any technicians that work on bandit machines any more.
Called Cal Line which wasn’t much help either, in fact it was a very weird call. In order to proceed with them apparently I have to file a credit application just to get in their system as a customer?

Anyway Bandit said if it runs run it, that any Murphy’s would just shut the machine down if there was a problem.
All connections are good, and certainly seems to be a LCD screen issue.
It’s a 2021 12xpc with about 450-500 hours on it.

Try disconnecting the battery overnight?
Thanks I’ll actually give that a shot. The guys have said it seems to work fine in the morning and then goes blank later in the day. I fiddle with it and gave it a gentle tap with a carabiner and it flashed back to normal for a moment.

It’s acting weird and the buttons still work to rev up or down. All the connections seemed fine, and clean. I doubt it’s a bad wire and more of an issue with the unit itself.

Looking up the part number and it’s available for $500 but to get a programmed unit the price doubles to triples for a software upload. I’m getting sick of modern electronics!

My 2018 xp15 the buttons under the screen that control the throttle are progressively getting less responsive. Today we had a real hard time getting it to throttle down. Cal-line quoted me $1300 for a new control panel. Was your $500 part the whole control panel?

I didn’t get a firm quote.. but I did pull and google the part number and found many unprogrammed units for $500. For my machine with no bells and whistles I question if I can get away with it, the hesitancy is not knowing if that is where auto feed is programmed in. I don’t need all the other junk like the bandit landing page.
They verbal said something like $1000-1200 so yours isn’t far off

Let me guess... You bought it from FMI who are no longer a dealer. I had a terrible time with them in Spokane, right after the new year in 2023 (edit. FMI are no longer Bandit dealers beginning 2023 if I recall correctly) when they installed my winch. They claimed Bandit is basically stonewalling them and making repairs and parts acquisition very difficult. Good luck with your issue. Sad you can't get support on such a new machine.

Actually purchased from WTD which later merged or became FMI..
apparently no bandit experienced techs left and they had no issue pointing a finger at bandit. Or Cal line either.
I had big issues with WTD when I purchased the machine. It was supposed to be green and some of the add on features (which I paid for) were not on the machine. They shit talked bandit then saying ‘they just give us what they give us, take it or leave it (and wait another 6-8months for hopefully the correct build)’
Got a second call into bandit to see if they will just ship me a new part directly (hopefully under warranty), and landmark machinery will take care of me if not.

Cal Line wants me to fill out a credit application because that just how they get me in their system?! That and drag the machine down to Tacoma to confirm it’s the unit and then order and then return or mail it to me. Basically a 6-8 hour day and $100+ in ferry fees not to mention boat reservations.

Take a quick look and see if the PCB is potted - if so you're knackered. If the solder connections and traces are accessible and you feel up to it consider checking for corroded or broken PCB traces or cracked or corroded solder joints. LCD's usually have conductive rubber edge connectors - could alcohol clean and reinstall. Look for goop leaking out of a capacitor. Any deeper than that and brain anguish begins. warning - you could fubar the remaining functionality you still have by attempting this. you could put in a replacement and pursue refurb on your old unit as a spare

I’ll certainly go with the last option. My repair jobs tend to fix the thing but create other things that need fixin. Endless circles.

Landmark took care of me.
No return call from bandit warranty..
@chiselbit if your buttons are screwy the face pops right off with a butter knife and it can easily be swapped for a new plastic cover with new buttons.
Has a independent part number
All the electronics look fine to my laymen’s eyes, little white dusty stuff but some is under tape so came that way from the manufacturer. Gaskets aren’t the best and I’ll be certainly modifying the display cover door for more weather/road protectionIMG_3996.jpegIMG_3997.jpegIMG_3997.jpeg
