Bandit 18xp vs Vermeer bc1800

Vemeer left some literature on my doorstep today and I have not seen this winch design
Not sure about functionality of it but the forward thinking getting it out of the way for machine feeding is good in my book

I agree. That is not an 1800xl that's one of the axle 17-19 or bigger chipper

My winch protects my reverse bar but sure takes a beating from the grapple
Rigggghhhht be dern nice if that winch could adjust height and angle for in use and easily out the way when not in use. I’m well aware about some people cutting and hinging the winch out the way, but the adjustment refinement in the winch seems like a good future step in chipper innovation.
We machine feed all the time and rarely winch. That’s said I wouldn’t go without one on a chipper ever again

Vermeer should make a switch for the side of the machine that turns off the feed table bar if you are machine feeding the chipper. I’ve been on jobs where we literally had someone leaning on that green button to keep things flowing.
That would be a great feature. Only when people just leave it off even when hand feeding someone is going to be found negligent if something happens. Perhaps two versions of the machine wouldn't be a bad idea. One for asplundh and one for everyone else who doesn't want that feature lol.

Have always ran Bandits and where I am now runs Vermeer. We demoed (machine feeding) an 1800 and 19xp; although I was a bandit man I tried to keep an open mind. We chipped two 18" hard maple trunks side by side. Bandit died (autofeed bogged way down and motor actually died), and the Vermeer sucked it down fine. I'm hoping that the bandit was just set up incorrectly?
