Bandit 1590 input please?

I paid $65,000 for my 2013 1590 with a John Deere 6 cyl 173 hp. That price is high and I would not buy a Perkins. I have not heard good things about this dealer. Problem is tree guys need dealers to help complete their purchase with financing.

I've had zero issues with the perkins in my Morbark 2400. Price does seem high, as are the prices on the million other things they are advertising...but if people will pay it then eh

I have that one with the 213 hp perkins great machine. That’s basically what I paid for mine in 2014. Based on cost of new and no DEF tier 3 its a fair price. It’s either that or pay 95 k for a similar new unit. Last year I paid the same for a used tier 3 Ditch Witch as I did for a new one in 2014 but it was worth it.
It’s a great chipper

Do you due diligence. Look it over, test it do everything you can to insure it’s a good machine. We a based about 20 minutes from them give or take and the only off thing we have heard is his prices are high. But if it’s good strong and clean equipment that is the price you pay.

Thanks for all the input. We’ve negotiated the price down to 60 - think I’m gonna pull the trigger.

I have virtually the same machine. Paid 72k in '14. The perkins is the best engine Ive ever owned. Absolutely bullet proof, knock wood. Eats virtually no fuel. The only downside of the machine shown is it has 2 feed wheel drive motors instead of 3 which mine is equipped with, 3 motors makes it a crushing, pulling beast. I had a smaller 1590 previously, had to buy it while mine was getting built. It had the smaller tires, 140 hp I think, skinnier drive belt, 2 hydro feed motors. It was a wimp.

My buddy bought a Bandit 254xp from them looked all nice with new paint and decals when he put it to work it was the biggest POS chipper In the shop weekly. They are grossly overpriced I’d look for a clean private deal.

I put a deposit on this machine. I am wary of the refurbs but this thing only has 500 hours on it so I’m hoping it’s a good machine.

How is the 3rd motor incorporated into the feed wheel system?

Its on the other side of the upper feed wheel. So the upper feed wheel has a hydro motor on each end of it, the lower feed wheel has a motor on one end and just a bearing on the other end.

It was kinda new in '14 but the BB rep said they were going to set up virtually all the 1590s that way thereafter. It is beastly.

We often fill up a 6' wide grapple bucket with brush, butts in/tips out,and then feed it all in at once, backwards, and it eats it all no problem.

So if anyone’s interested:

I rode up to get this machine this past Saturday. My impressions of Rick are that he’s a fast talking, soft hand-shaking kinda guy. Seems fitting near philly and s. Jersey. He seemed knowledgeable and had a lot full of equipment: mostly Bandit, Morbark, Vermeer chippers, some stump grinders, and a bunch of bobcat skidsteers. His adverts usually boast ‘fully serviced, tested, pristine equipment’. I did not find this to be the case. He maybe changed the oil filter. He did not change hydro or hydro filter. Knives were beat up. I haven’t had a chance to check anvil or reverse knife settings but I’m not hopeful. The oil bath hubs were milky and in need of servicing. The machine I purchased appears to be a nice machine, but I found little effort put in from his end. I mentioned the discrepancy of hours advertised and real hours and was given the response; ‘well, we use them while we have them.’ The ‘new’ knives had a new back edge but looked like the front edge had been chipping gravel. The clutch was out of adjustment by 50lbs. Also, the machine had obviously had a tool box mounted to the driver’s side fender but had been removed. This is my fault, but after purchase, in the rain, and a 5 hour drive home, I asked about the missing ‘feature’ and he directed me to a Bandit dealer for the $225 part rather than just saying he’d make it right. Job today went well and she ran good. I had to make some relief cuts where I was hoping I wouldn’t but that’s the learning curve, I guess. I may need to adjust the springs in the climb system of the lift box...
