Backyard Redwood seems brown this spring

Hi,

I have a *very* large redwood tree in my backyard, which seems to be browner than usual right now (especially closer to the top). It shed less than usual last fall, which I attributed to the generous rainfall we received the previous winter. This winter, however, has been hot and dry. Should I be concerned?

Thank you,
Dave

I have spent most of my life working and living in a Redwood forest and I have never seen the woods looking more sickly. Even though we had a decent winter last year its gonna take a few good winters to get out of the danger zone. Your Red is stressed from the drought no doubt, and it is also growing outside its natural environment. If you have lawns near the Red make sure no fertilizers are beings used near it, and you might want to try some supplemental watering as things get even dryer this summer. You are very lucky to have such a beautiful Red there in Suburbia.
