So this just happened unintentionally on a climb. I was using it to lower something and it wasn't for life support. I tried it afterwards intentionally and have been able to replicate this opening it with one hand. Does anyone have experience with ths carabiner? Does yours do that too?

The manufacturer would probably like to see and hear about it. Possibly already a recall on it?
I admit I'm unfamiliar with their products but I tend to expect good quality products from Austria.

Glad you caught it.

It’s been a long time since I’ve seen a biner do that. I am very certain that the manufacturer would be very interested in knowing about this, as their buckles are on many of our harnesses.
What is the history on this carabiner? Heavy use? Age? Blah blah?

So what is happening here is that I am able to use its 4 way locking mechanism while the carabiner is open. The way the Rondo 4 works is that it's a triple action carabiner, but you can push the barrel up farther when unlocked (shouldn't be with an open gate though) then twist it another 90° to lock it in a way that requires 4 motions to open. However, this can be done with an open gate here, essentially locking it open.
@evo Bought it about a week ago, has two climbs on it, minimal use, once as a backup for an alpine butterfly stopper and then that light lowering duty when this happened.

It seems to be an over complicated, gimmicky type of concept that wasn’t well thought out. Perhaps the user has to always make sure the gate is closed before activating, not always easily done in a work environment.

Thanks for bringing this up, I went to Ausrtri’s website to find additional info on this carabiner and found something similar, or exactly the same as the 6 mm ocean vectran cord. Also liked looking at all their other gear.
