Ascender lanyard

What type of materials are people using for lanyard connecting the saddle to the hand ascenders? Specifics would be great.

I am currently using 7\16 Yale Yacht Braid rated at 5500lbs, but this is kind of bulky.

Do you girth hitch the loop runner to the ascender, or the back up biner? Also do you girth hitch it to your saddle biner? Or do you just clip into the runner and not worry about the slop?

I use the loop runner too. What I do is girth hitch the loop to your ascender and same for the biner that attaches to the saddle. I've also seen guys girth hitch the loop directly to the saddle ring.

I have the Glide with two rings on the bridge that I tie the lanyard to, but I was wondering if this is safe. The other end of the lanyard I tie to the biner that is connects my back up hitch to the ascender. I dont like putting my lanyard on the ascender because the holes are not rated high enough.

I use a biner with two runners.
One for the saddle and one for my left foot with a pantin on my right foot.
No comments on the dog snap unless there's something better.

Kevin, is that hole rated higher than the Petzl's? I think the highest rated hole is only 20kn. I would like to have a similar set up, but I dont feel safe enough connecting to the lower hole.

As for the dog snap, why not just use another biner?

I can't recall what it's rated for but regardless I'm still attached to my climbing line with my climbing hitch below and separate from the ascender.
I have it set up like this so I can dump the ascender and bail on the hitch if need "bee".
A biner won't fit in the upper holes of the Kong ascender.

I was using a loop runner, but now I made a small whoopie sling so it adjusts.

The top holes in the double kongs aren't biner-compatable...

I picked up a CMI handled ascender for single lines a while ago but havn't got a chance to use it yet, I've been rockin' the GLeasy bars -> easiest way up a tree I have found. Thanks Greg!

So if I am understanding you correctly, you have a hitch tied above and below your ascender?

What Hitch do you have below the ascender? Do you have any picts of your set up below the the ascender?

This is one of my SRT ascender setups. The biner attaches to the front d on my harness. One of my hands goes on the rope just below the microcender and the other hand rests on adjusting buckle on the blue webbing. This configuration puts my hands in almost the same position as any double handled ascenders.

I don't have any pictures of that but the hitch is an eye/eye Distel on a biner with a micro pulley.
The ascender set up is totally separate.
One short loop runner for the attachment to my saddle and a long loop runner that reaches my left foot so I can alternate by climbing with the force of both legs.
If I run into a problem I just remove the short runner from my saddle, descend on my Distel and leave the ascender behind.

Bow shackle for Butterfly saddle works well. Here it is used on a doubled climbing line, but the tether could just as easily be a single leg for SRT.

Have you tried descending on a single line with a Distal?

I use a rated daisy chain. It is easily adjusted for length by choosing a loop where you need it. It will also provide multiple point of attachment for back ups. It may also be useful once you're up in the tree.
