Are trees sentient?

Another book about trees communicating.

One Shigo-ism that I pay attention to is tobe careful not to mix or blend botany and biology. Many years before Suzanne Simard wrote about trees'talking' I remember a session in a Shigo class where Dr S went into micorhizae. The word I remember was 'communicated' not talk. The chemical signals sent back and forth were important to each plant.

A side story in the news today was about thee repair job done on Voyager 1 is amazing. More communication

The crappy analogy I have is my past life in herpticulture (reptiles). The common narrative is that they are dumb almost robotic animals that only respond to stimuli. This couldn’t be further than the truth. They are highly evolved and arguably much more so than mammals. They have senses we cannot fathom.
Yet our issue is relating to things we cannot experience ourselves.
