Are tree climbers/trimmers a dying breed?

Tying to find experienced tree climber/trimmer if there are any left. Small company servicing the South metro area in business for twelve years with an overload on work. Looking for the right person for the job unless you are inside playing video games or do not like to work outside. Also if any one can tell me where all the workers are please let me know. Thanks

What is trimming? Do you cut hair on the side as well?

Work is easy to sell.

It's doing it that is the hard part.

Hopefully most of the tree climbers and arborist you are seeking have a gig of their own going on and don't have time to work for the man who seeks to profit from their labor.

Work is easy to sell.

Maybe this stuff has been covered before countless times, but a man like you who can make a statement like that might have something to teach to all of us.

Maybe your ideas for selling the work deserves it's own thread. I know I would love to hear anything you have to say on the subject of selling the work.

Thanks for your time.

Tim

Tim try directing your question to the guys mining the site for employees Vs. stepping up with the info you are seeking.

I think you can learn to answer phones and practices marketing strategies to sell work fairly quickly. But it takes years to be able to do the work with skill and confidence. I see it all the time, somebody selling a service they cant provide. I think the skilled and motivated climbers among us are starting to figure it out. This is not directed at anybody particular, just a general observation.

I'm not a great climber but can prune, do removals and understand tree biology. Most of my time goes into improving the business and getting us work and not improving my skills as a climber. I need a climber who is willing to work for a small company that cares about it's employees and the work we do. Yes, a lot of good climbers can start their own business and move forward. Running a business correctly isn't as easy as it seems I don't think. Anyone looking for work? 40 hours of solid tree work and then home not thinking about work or bids or timesheets or....... I need a solid, competent day to day climber. Willing to pay appropriately and make it worth your time, we just need to chat. I don't abuse climbers and their skill. I don't think so at least, anyone else feels different just let me know. I want to just work, have as much fun as we can, make some money for all of us, avoid the drama and help customers and their trees. I want to provide a platform for us all to improve and show off their skills. Any interest to work with us just let me know. Thank you, Chad

I'm not sure about other countries but I would say in this country probably. I can only speak for my professional trade but without a doubt there are less and less. My Tech school teacher said it would take 20-30 years but we would be priceless.

My view in a nutshell is this.....In the early 80's when I graduated trades were still strong but were already getting phased out as a way of life. Someone decided that as a country we were not as smart, per the tests, as other countries. So to cure that they decided that we should teach them to pass tests better, and try to make all of them go to college. What really happened is millions of kids got screwed. Billions of dollars later and with half the first year college kids dropping out they decided to open pay to go Vocational schools. There is a great short term answer but why not just promote Trades as an honest way of life. I also believe that much of the blame is a result of the 80's and all the quick money that was gotten by so many people without the skills to be rich. As a result many of the next generation started to become in titled or at least they thought so. Since many of them were not #1 but felt they should be we got rid of #1 and just started telling everyone they were equal and that participation trophies were all that we needed. So now we have a few generations that feel just showing up is okay, and a job done is all that is needed. I find it hard to blame the current when for their whole lives it was how they were taught and treated.

Sorry I am just ranting. What I will say is that thank god some have seen through the crap and have chosen a trade, and they give 100% even if it is wrong. You can fix wrong, you can't fix lazy, worthless and self intitled.

Amen!!! This is exactly what I have been struggling with, and my guess is most of the rest of these guys as well! Lazy, know it all, cell phone ostriches who think everything should be given to them without any hint of hard work!!!
All the good hard working guys are doing their own gigs and fighting over the few good guys out there. It has been more of a competition for the good help then the work.
