Archery Release for the BIGshot

I recently found a device at the sports store that seems to make the BIGshot a little easier to use. It's a non-strap, archery release for <u>under $10!!!</u> I couldn't bring myself to spend $60+ on a snap shackle.

So, I made a video ... not because it needed a vid but because I wanted to try out a new computer and software. Please excuse the over-production ... I got carried away ...

The archery release seems to work pretty good. If anyone's interested, I'll post some details.

That's the exact release I was using until someone gave me a Wichard.

I rigged mine to the butt of the pole and setup a 2:1 with capture (idea complements of TD), that way you don't have to hold pressure on the release while you're aiming.

Sure like to see a picture of that ... any chance you could post one?

An old thread:

The rope is attached to an eye bolt at the base of the pole. I glued a PVC coupler over the 'glass pole so that the eye bolt doesn't pull through the 'glass. The eye bolt is through the PVC coupling.

There have been concerns with the release rope whipping back. I've never had this happen because I hold onto the release string.

When I shoot I use the BS like a shotgun, from my shoulder.

Jack, I don't think I ever took a picture of it and I gave it away once I got the Wichard.

You can adjust the release pressure so it's not hair trigger. I disassembled mine and put a loop of Zing-it through it to connect it the the downhaul.

Well, OK ... got a pic of what you are using? ... sure would be good to see it. I'm so into optimizing ... and 'stealing' all the ideas I can!

Nice production man! I used to use an archery trigger for BS release, but lately just go without it. Strange, but I'm more accurate without the release

The least complicated release that I found is used by horse trainers.

It is called a Panic Snap and has a slide to release bale.

You can even file some of the bale's tongue down so it releases much sooner.

Unbelievable low price snap shackle

I turned up this site while searching for releases and can believe the price. I might just have to buy one and maybe some of those other high=tech plastic biners/hooks etc.

UPDATE: Archery Release for the BIGshot - NOT GOOD

In an effort to be forthright; the "Archery Release" began to fail after about 30 shots and 'fire' too early. So, I can recommend against it and the video has been deleted.

As advised, I'll go back to using my hand to shoot my BIGshot ... my fingers have always been more reliable for release, anyway.

Thats because of the cheap release. I have one that I've had for years and it still works fine, fired thousands of arrows with it.

Re: UPDATE: Archery Release for the BIGshot - NOT GOOD

Point taken. Yeah, it was a bit too strong to imply a recommendation against <u>all</u> archery releases ... just a "cheap release". And some of the fault was my choice of throwline to use with the release. It has a tendency to 'flatten' and slip through the release much easier than a good quality bow string. Further, the pull-down on the BIGshot <u>seems</u> a lot harder than any of my bows - compound or recurve.

Anyway, HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! ... gonna go misbehave, now ...
