Arborwear: Who wears the pants?

I am going to buy a pair of AW pants. The ascender pants are a bit pricy for me right now, so I am thinking either the tech or canopy pants. I researched them both a bit, and still can't decide. Anybody want to give some pros and cons about them?

Thanks, Jackson

I just sent Bill an email this morning about their gear. Here's a continuum:

Blue jeans--->Tech Pants--->Canopy Pants

There is as dramatic a difference between each of them.

I like my Canopy pants so much that I do the shower wash at night if I don't have enough time to do a machine wash. That way they're dry in the morning.

In this triple digit heat I've felt a nice chill on my legs from the sweat evaporating and cooling me! Same goes for wearing poly blend tshirts.

I want clothes that work not workclothes.

What size pants do you wear? I'm going to upgrade to Canopy pants and I've got a bunch of Tech pants that would sell cheap...size 34x32. PM me if you're interested.

the canopy pants are great, not sure about durability cause I just got them recently. I've had the techs for 4-5 years and they are still in decent shape. the techs are hot and restrict movement when climbing for me, especially when sweaty. I use the techs in winter now and canopy for summer.

Tech pants are really, really good.

I climbed one tree with a multitool in my pocket, and the hard corner of the handle wore a little hole in my canopy pants on the first day. Super comfy, just not nearly the durability. I'm concerned about having a chainsaw attached to the side of the harness.

There bolth amazing pants. I'm slightly addicted to my canopy pants because there extremely comfy. There great for climbing because the only movement restriction you get is from the saddle. I trimed an argentine mesquite(extremely thorny tree) and got stuck in the leg a couple times and there's no holes in them to my suprise. And there awsome with evaporitive cooling too.
My tech pants are pritty nice. A lot less costrictive then jeans and a bit more comfy. There good with evaporitive cooling. And I've trimmed a few spicies of throny trees in them and they've held up amazingly.
Honestly id go with bolh.

stretch tech pants rock! If you would try a cheaper shorter lived substitute Prahna stretch Zion pants are ok. for comp or rec climbing outdoor research ferrosi pants feel better than being naked but wont hold up to the daily grind. (i wear them on super hot days to try to stay cool

Arborwear is the way to go. The canopy and ascender pants hold up well and still look clean after a days work, day after day. If they get pitchy the pitch just wears off. The ascender pants have more bells and whistles. I totally agree with Tom D about the tech tees also being the cats on hot day. Arborwear is the Bombdigiddy!

OK Chisholm and Dunlap what'd you do with the other part of the cats a s? Would'nt it be great if we could get Arborwear to make chainsaw PPE pants? It would require some R & D on their part, but I'm sure they would sell by the 1000s. Maybe if they got a bunch of requests??

[Dunlop is the Scottish spelling. :)]

what did you expect from a dutch bowline tier?

Re: Arborwear: Who wears the pants? TMI WARNING!

In addition to wearing AW Tech T's and AW Canopy Pants I have AW hidden out of sight AW Tech Boxer Briefs

When will there be AW socks?!

I've felt chilled water running down my back and legs many times. This is from the way that the polyester materials work at wicking which means keeping us cooler.

Buy clothes that work not work clothes.

How is the fit on the canopy pants compared to the tech pants? I've got a few pair of the tech pants, they are too hot for summer months here but the durability is insane. I've noticed the pair I have are really tapered, same thing with the canopy pants?

Re: Arborwear: Who wears the pants? TMI WARNING!

I like the fit and taper of the Canopy pants better.

The material is completely different from Tech Pants. The Canopy pants seem more like Ascenders but without double knees, etc. Both Canopy and Ascenders still look and feel good when they're soaked.

When Tech pants get wet, rain or sweat, they tend to get baggy and the 'drape' of the pants changes. This isn't a fashionista issue, more of comfort. This is NOT a deal breaker though. I'd wear the worst pair of Tech Pants before the best pair of any cotton jeans, wet or dry.

Re: Arborwear: Who wears the pants? TMI WARNING!

hey tom is the canopy velcro pocket accessible whne the saddle is on. that is the bad thing about the tech pants; cant pull out my camera or phone without a fight so why have the pocket?

32s are a lil tight on me tho--make me a deal on your 34s. i worked 11 a.m. to 5 pm tuesday in the tree with temp 100 and tech pants were cool enough. a liter per hour, thassall.

climbing in jeans seems counterproductive.

Re: Arborwear: Who wears the pants? TMI WARNING!

Canopy pants have a side opening zipper closure pocket on the right...below the leg strap. At first I wanted to have the two patch pockets like on Tech Pants but I like the zip pocket. I'll have to check out how accessible the back pockets are when I'm in my saddle.

back pockets inaccessible with sequoia and all other saddles i knwo of. funny i was talking to arborwear today and they said the side pocket had 2 entries, zip and velcro. i need velcro to one-hand cameras and other gear.

but i hear ya on tech pants getting saggy w2hen wet--after my 5 hour climb i just took them off first thing with socks and shoes before hosing down. They were dragging me down so bad i could hardly walk; well fatigue and heat were factors too.

glad i had a shirt with tails to hide the boxers, somewhat. at that point i did not care.

Re: Arborwear: Who wears the pants? TMI WARNING!

I wear the tech pants at work. Not by choice it's what was issued. And im not complaining. It's a love hate relationship.I as well did not like the side pockets so I took them off.And as many here have stated they do change when wet.I sweat a lot and I mean a lot and have noticed lately in the heat that I can completely soak these pants with sweat and they dry almost completely during lunch break which is cool until I go back to work or am on the way home the knees turn to concrete.I also dont particularly like the fit.Im a big fan of pants with a little more flexibility than the tech pants provide.I would get the canopy's.

Re: Arborwear: Who wears the pants? TMI WARNING!

I've got Tech pants. I like them a lot. I like the idea of the Canopy pant, though they're not really my style. I love trim fitted cargo pants because I can wear them riding, climbing, hangin out or gardening. Stretch stuff is a little less versatile I find.
That said, I climb at work in Pfanner saw pants.
