Arborwear like climb pants with knee pad inserts in place?

Couple comments on the canopy model after a week of wearing it in the office. The two front pockets r way too deep. Can be shortened by 1/3. The zippered right side pocket should b on the side, NOT on the front on top of ur leg (under the front pocket) when sitting down. What r they thinking?

Not familiar with the pants, but that sound like a measure to take so your not crushing pocket contents with a legloop if you're wearing a harness.

@erwin Yeah, especially canopy and ascenders are designed with a focus on climbing, harness comfort, and literally being in a tree for 7 plus hours moving all over the place. They also try to make the pockets so they dont fill with sawdust easy or let things fall out when operating at extreme angles limb walking and hopping around the canopy. As office wear I'm sure they aren't fantastic. I'd get some khaki dockers kidding... I'll ask our product development department about some of what you mentioned.

Just wanted to add... not all harnesses are going to fall in the same spot on every body type of course, but we do try to make pockets accessible while wearing a harness. Here's a few pics of the Ascenders on a dummy with harness while our development team was working out details. Of course we field test prototypes extensively as well. Just a little sneak peak at the shop. ;)

Some manufacturers have an additional pocket on each leg just below the harness position (proper pocket, not a cargo pocket)!

I like the knee pad pocket idea even though the iron woods have enough padding for me
@jdevogel Have you guys at arborwear decided on a suspender for the ironwoods? The loops are on the pants but (at the time I bought mine) don’t sell any suspenders. Endor’s and I are wondering
Have you tried our Clogger suspeners? We do a clipped version that works on pants that dont have the traditional fasteners. https://goclogger.com/clogger-premium-suspenders/

Cheers Treebilly! By the look of the feedback around here you don't need to rely on my telling you what they are like. Just as a heads up for everyone, we are in the process of developing an awesome groundworkers chainsaw pant. It will be super light and cool like the zeros, but without the climbing specific features so will be a bit cheaper, while still being super tough and stretchy.

@erwin just wanted to add that they are moving the pocket on the Canopy Pants from the front to the side and redesigning it a bit. The pocket will now have a flap protecting the zipper, which runs along the top at a slight angle. They should have the updated product in Fall, this year. Just a heads up.

Thx. That made me feel so good. ALSO, another biggie to me at least on the Ascender pants: 1. the large zippered left leg side pocket is very prone to snagging. . 2. the "ultility pocket" on the right leg (assuming it's for a wedge?) need to be a straight opening wit ha flap. My experience, most of the time saw dust tend to fill the side pockets on the right leg, not the left.

make sure you ask them to add a knee pad insert pockets to it. My opinion, if you want to sell any pants as climbing pants, THEY HAVE TO have knee pad pockets. add internal knee pad pockets on the canopy and modify the existing Kevlar knee reinforcement on the Ascender to accept standard sized knee pad inserts.

Been waiting to jump into this conversation and with all the comments erwin is making, how about canopy and ascenders with 40 and 42 waist and up to at least 34 inseam? Been requesting that for years.

I know they've talked about more "fringe" sizing for years. The thing that usually kills it is factory minimums. IE, you HAVE to order a minimum of 5,000pcs per size, and if we only sell 100 pairs, we just threw away a few grand. It's always hard for big n' tall folks (and abnormally skinny). I'm on the opposite end, and have wanted 28 waist pants for years, no dice - but now I understand why. Simple supply and demand. There aren't many dudes with a 28 waist, just like their aren't many dudes with a 40-42 waist climbing. Not rude, just again - supply and demand and companies not wanting to throw away money on minimum orders that collect dust in the warehouse.

I think someone needs to start a "big-n-tall" (or tall-n-skinny) workwear company. For bigger companies it's easy, because they can go to the factory and say "Look, we just ordered 60,000 pcs this month. We want a run of size 42 pants for the same price as the 30s - and we only want 500 of em, deal with it." Nonetheless, I will pass on the info. Thank you!

Thanks for your response. I understandthe situation but feel that a market survey might shed a different light. Sip makes their climbing pants i xxl and xxxl that fit 42-46 and 46-48 so it can be done profitably.

Y
More than happy to do custom sizing if it is required - any dimensions you can think of, and a minimum order size of 1
thanks mr. Peetle. I may do that sometime I did try a pair of clogger spiders in xxl and found them a touch too snug through the thighs and at the hips. I think if you did a standard xxxl it would do the trick rather than special measurements.
