Arbor Boss Rope

I want to make some eye and eye slings out 5\8 buccaneer arbor boss rope. Before I start just wanted to make sure this would be a class 1 16 strand splice. Is there any reason to avoid using this kind of splice and rope for light duty crane picks? Tensile strength is 10,400 #'s.

Thanks for the input ranger. It was good meeting you and you and your pops. What I need to know is if I should do two separate eyes on each end for a ten foot sling with the core crossing over the cover or do the crossover with the covers overlapping for a crane application? It seems like allot of rope for a cover crossover on a ten foot sling but I want to do it right.

A ten foot section would allow you to have a "regular" eye splice on each end, and by that I mean a cross over just like you had a 120' section of rope.

That arbor boss is pretty easy stuff to splice, you will see what I mean when you start working with it.

You might need a good phillips head screwdriver.

Well the vise grips wouldnt slide through the cover like I expected and I still got got tape in my teeth. Seriously though, thanks John. I still got the bug from KY. Made a couple of ten footers for the crane. We intend to use them for balancers and light picks. My wife cant stand it that all I want to do after the boy goes to bed is sit on the porch and play with ropes. It really isnt right, or is it?

Before the symposium I put an eye on a new 1/2" arbor boss line, turned out nice. Nice rope for the price too. My wife wanted it for her own line, pretty colors. Now I can say, I don't just trust my splices with my life, I trust them with my wife! See what madness home splicing brings!

Seems to me like a good sling eye to eye. I've been using the miniature version out of bluestreak when we made our friction savers but I already used up my ring allowance on 3-strand. Quick redirect for light rigging with a steel carabiner.

I'm into end for end loops, seems for crane picks a loop out of 5/8" would get you more mileage, especially if you're chokering the load. I'd guess (easy for me to say) that the same method and measurements for an eye splice could also join the rope end for end, no?

Ryan.

Why are you going with Arbor Boss? Why not use a rope with allot less stretch and more tensile. It's easy to generate 2,800 pounds of force, (20%) SWL of Arbor Boss, with a crane.
