Anyone used All gear TVP cord?

I am told the All Gear 5/16 prussic cord has been discountinued recently. (brownish red stuff)

I tried it after seeing the oldfart vids and found it nice for the types of applications he uses it for. Kind of a nice size double with a bury.

Has anyone tried the All gear 5/16 TVP cord? (yellow)

I tried it out a while ago. It worked fairly well, but it gets BIG after the splice is buried. It's plaited, so it's rather round when spliced, but if you tied knots at the ends the entire cord would lay into more of a rectangular shape.

I think it works well for more stationary prusik applications, but it would not be my first choice for a climbing hitch.

Norm, I think that's a good application for that cord. If it's not too much trouble, please post a pic of it in use. I'm interested in how you tie it...can you retrieve it from the access line as you normally would, or is in prusik fashion, requiring unwrapping after the access line is pulled down?

Uncle Norm made me a weapon a couple of years ago. I have to admit I didn't use it much at first but now I can't leave home with out it. Wrapping the weapon aorund the host line forming a knut works for me. Then I SRT up Tower Line, at height, form a stopper knot and spike it. I have never tried to retrieve it from the tree because the tower line just gets untied from the base of the tree and pull the whole setup safely to the ground.

That is basically how I intend to use it, stationary prussics. Usaver, maybe a loop in a thimble, loop on a pinto for a SW, etc.

Would be interested to see what it looks like stuffed.

What do you Guys think about strenght loss because of aging and UV Degradation with such a Tech Cord.
I dont see a Problem realy because the Strenght is very high, but thest Fibers are not suposed to be exposed for long, are they?

Here is the pic. It's the set up I use.

200' Tower Line 7/16's"
Weapon tied with a "VT", climbing line thru the rings
Petzl Croll chest ascender and chest harness
Petzl Pantin

The Tower Line is anchored at the base of the tree on a small Porty, backed with a prusik. I just pull the Tower Line down when done.
It's my primary ascending system. I have a knee ascender now, too.

Thanks for posting, Norm!

I think the way you have it configured would allow you to retrieve without too much difficulty. I understand you would just pull out the Tower Line with the SW in place, but if you had a need to, you could also remotely retrieve it from the Tower Line...especially if the VT tress' (braids) didn't alternate.

I've seen them configured like the recommended RopeTek HH cord.

Ups for posting, man. Thanks!

No Comments on the aging and UV thing?

I'd like to hear any data out there on degradation from UV.

I have seen how weather has degraded webbing over much time from my earlier rock climbing days and having webbing in trees on my property over the past few years.

But that isn't data and hard to know how much is just from the weather and how much is UV.

I, personally, don't know of any data on this particular product. One can always call the manufacturer.
I did have a slightly used one pulled apart, to see what it would break at. See attachment.

Very cool Norm, thanks!
It is the thinner one or the thicker Diameter?
And as I see just Brummels without anything crossing.

How old was it?

I already wrote to the Manufacturer about this,but did get no answer. I fear to call the US from Europe... );

It's the 5/16's" diameter, which is a 16 strand. I removed 9 strands, instead of 8, as I found it grabbed just a bit better on my Rocket Line and Tachyon with the 7 strand bury. Yes, no brummels, just a straight bury.

I would guess I had 10 or 12 climbs on the cord I had pulled. It was used mostly on Tachyon, using an "XT".

One important thing to note (maybe this has already been pointed out) is that the 8mm and the 10mm TVP could not be any more different.

The 8mm is a tiny 16-strand hollow and the 10mm is a really fat 12-strand. That confuses a lot of people, understandably. Almost like they should have two separate names.

Very good point Luke.

I use 8mm TVP cord and insert a 1/4" nylon filler cord to help keep it round, and have found it to be THE BEST hitch cord to use with the Hitch Hiker.

How weird that it would break in the eye where each leg sees only half the load and not in the main rope which sees the entire load. The eye must have been seriously weakened.
