anyone start a tree service in foreign country ?

Like any international move, I'm sure actually understanding the culture and the market is number one. Depending on the country, often the prices for labor can so cheap that all forms of manual labor (skilled work included) are not well respected or well paid, and are often just done by 'anyone with a saw,' so it could be hard (or impossible) to make it work as a professionalized business.

I "worked" for an arb in Spain in 08'.
He was a kiwi who set up outside Barcelona after doing a long stint in the uk.
It took him 10 yrs to overcome the language and cultural nuances of Spanish tree torture to build a biz that valued trees and did good pruning.
He struggled finding help that had the ability to raise their cultural standards and move towards proper pruning cuts etc...
That said. He developed a great successful biz. It was just a real uphill battle, and I don't know if he is still in the game

The tree care in Spain is both fascinating and bizarre. Lots of weird pollarding and grafting trees to other trees and even themselves. IMG_1171.jpeg

That's cool, a part of my heart is in Nepal after going there twice to visit friends of mine at another church.
I saw a lot of young men sitting around, so many of them try to get work visas to other countries because the economy is so poor and the pay they get for labor work isn't enough to live on. I asked my buddy, who seems to be pretty savvy with making a go of it in his culture, if he thought I could start a business doing tree work and he said "if we want to cut the tree We do it ourselves or give somebody a couple bottles of alcohol"
- That's the extent of my market research, besides seeing some pretty big dead trees overhanging busy walking routes and prayer flags covering other trees. not super encouraging... maybe someday if my kiddos grow up a little more I can get back over there- maybe set up unique mountain top rec climbing opportunities for tourists and Trekkers
