Anyone own a Subaru Legacy?

I totaled my Jeep so i am on the hunt for a new ride. Looking at 08-09 Subaru Legacy 2.5GT and 3.0R. As well as 08-09 Honda Accord. Sick of paying high gas prices with an SUV. Hondas are bullet proof and spacious but the quirky Subaru has my attention!

How many Subarus have you seen on the side of the road? A rare sight, they're well built I've tried to kill a few and they wouldn't die. Hondas are about as good as well with better mileage than the Subaru.

Bull, my brother's a Subaru/Acura (basically a Honda) tech.

He says Subarus are known for coolant leaks, mainly headgaskets, they've also had some wiring issues where they've had to replace the entire wiring harness. He works more on Acuras now than Subarus, they split the shop up. He said he'll talk to the Subaru techs to see if they've got the coolant leak thing figured out, they may have with the later models.

On another note, he says the Honda's are pretty much bomb proof. Just maintain them and they'll take good care of you. I just bought a 2011 Civic sedan and I love it. We're looking at the Accord for my wife once our van lease is up.

I'll keep you posted if I hear anything different.

I have an '01 Legacy Outback and it had exactly the problem Jim is talking about: head gasket blew at 80K miles...It started to go somewhere east of the Mojave Desert, as I was heading west, and the needle on the temperature guage just kept jumping up and down like it was on a trampoline.

BUT, the dealer where I took it made sure that Subaru paid for the repair!

Now at 130K miles, a few fixes here and there, and still kickin'.

Great car. I'd buy it again over a Honda, but that's just preference.

Hey Bull, I've got an 04 Subaru Liberty GT (Legacy to the rest of the world).

Been a great car, would have normally turned it over a couple of years ago but kept it for the Mrs.

No probs whatsoever, heaps of pull on the turbo GT model, and i love the surety of All Wheel Drive grip. I punt it just as hard round corners in the wet as in the dry and you really have to try hard to get it sideways. Knowing how high it's limits of grip are make me feel very safe with the wife driving it with our 2 & 3 yo kids on board.

Drive both the 3.0 & the turbo GT. It was an instant choice for me when i drove the GT
