Any one use this?

Looks like it would do the job. I don't have one but would be interested to see if someone does.

I have a custom built lowering bollard very similar to this. I have used this exact device design at a rigging conference two years ago. I loved it so much, I designed my own off of it and had my friends fabrication shop build it. Very rope friendly, able to add or remove half wraps as needed, great amount of control to user. Only thing I did significantly different from this was add a top attachment point for a fiddle block to clip to.

I have a racheting hobbs I used for a long time before my crane ans grcs. Still HAVE IT AND HAVE USED IT IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE GRCS. The grcs is definately much better but if it comes down to cost the hobbs is worth getting..Much cheaper than when I got mine when it was first out.

Seems like you won't save much by having a welder do it, unless the welder works cheap. The ratcheting aspect looks worth the extra dough. They've got the kinks worked out, hopefully through R&D.

GRCS....You can install the aluminum bollard into the same slot as the harkin winch... do they offer two different set ups instead..looks as though it is welded in place so you would have to re strap to the trunk...get a grsc it is great...IMO

I've never used one. I've seen a beach comber with a VW Beetle on a raft that used the hub to bundle his booms. I guess it would work in a pinch but the rim could cut the rope.
