Any guesses?

Hard to tell, but it appears he was bore cutting too close to the face, which only left side weighted uncut back wood?

Surprised him so much when it snatched his saw while falling that he didn't scamper out of the way....and fast!

He also missed cutting up one little tree so that it would have gone with the big oneand the other precut ones....clearly the vines had them all connected

I'm glad to see the instructor had the sense to get that guy out of there and that he didn't rush into situation.

Hopefully the faller learned a couple of things... particularly; escape when the tree is falling.

I watched it several times starting about 1:18.. very clear that the tree is faced perpendicular to the bore cut, which is the start of the back cut.. The faller is trying to lay the tree perpendicular to the bore.. There are two smaller trees to the right of the big one, that have already been cut, but are hung up in the vines, and pulling heavily to side-weight the tree. It is that sideweight that caused the tree to fail, well before the back cut was even close to finished.. This is one situation where a little stump shot causes saw snatch.. a level back cut or even slightly below, would have left the saw in the operator's hands, though the bar might have been bent..

The faller never looked up once, and the trainer (if that's what he is) only gives a quick glance up as the tree just begins to move and another quick glance up as the tops are nearly all down.. Could have been nasty...

Looks like rain forest, doesn't it? I don't think I would want any parts of that.

Being groomed that cutting down our forest is okay, but cutting rain forest is the worst thing you can do.

I'm confronting myself here, btw.

I'll clear a lot for a house to be built, but when i see rain forest cut, it makes me sad.

What about clearing for a house to be built in a rain forest?

NIMBY?

Deforestation and habitat loss is a problem everywhere.

Granted, I'm more sensitive to tropical rain forest destruction, too. I don't like seeing huge clear cuts of temperate rain forest around me.

Re-use of building materials is popular around here. Do you all see it in your neck of the woods?
