Finally bought a couple of small (20x14) Antal rings to give this whole X ring idea a go, had them spliced like so, to either girth hitch or hang like a cambium saver, just going to be used for light/medium/rigging re-direct in place of natural crotching situations for the moment then possibly move on to bigger rings be that Antal or X rings.. Credit to X-man for developing the whole idea of using these rings.

Hi TC. very pretty. Why not one larger ring though? Also, just curious why u bought antal marked rings? should be same price as X-Rigging Rings and it's the same ring but if it says antal it does not give Xtreme Arborist supply any thanks for the 3 years invested in promoting and educating and testing these for the arb industry.

Nice splicing.

I never knew about capstan winches. Originally, i actually thought Greg designed that part too. I really appreciate him bringing it to arborists.

I take TC at his word of intention to credit David for his contribution to our industry. I look forward to each job I get to use my X Rings on for how much more fun and productive it makes my work.

It’s my request that as many of us as can see our way clear to, take every opportunity to reward our industries innovators and inventors both with our words and by ‘voting’ with our dollars. If you ever listen closely to the information they share you will know that they, by and large are giving far, far more than $ are compensating them. (Ask one.)

Speaking of the GCRS here is an email that I have not gotten over into the Inventor and Innovator thread yet.:

“Greg, Thanks for all you have gone through to make, test, train and distribute this amazing piece of equipment. It is what I think of as the Swiss Watch kind of tools. I pick it up and everything is right and smooth and just so in every way.

I wish the world was a fair place and the units I see over in Europe were being credited to you and your efforts too. But I guess that largely people are choosing not to live in a world like that today. It looks like they value all of your ideas except maybe paint color and some small mounting plate configuration details so much that they copy them. The modest royalty check and the hearty thank you for working out all the details and testing it for eons is all that they can't quite see their way clear to include in the equation.

Well, not to bring up a sore point, just to say thanks from not only me but really, from the industry. GRCS is the tool and the technique by which all other tools and ways of doing things are measured when it comes to lifting and lowering.

Please include me in you registry, GRCS ser # 2374, I will be interested in any updates you come up with as well as any new products.

Sincerely, Merle Nelson

P.S. There is a thread over at TreeBuzz and The Tree House titled, "Innovation and Inventors" or some such. I realized part way through this email I would like to include the body of this email in that if it is ok with you. I think you and your contemporaries (inventors and innovators) deserve far more recognition and appreciation from us in the Arborist Community. Also to that end any educating us or participation in that thread that you would like to add would be most welcome. Is it ok with you for me to use this email?”

Response:

“Merle, thanks for the kind words. I am glad your GRCS is working for you. Regarding the email I only wish the Royalty check part were true. If you would like to include it in the Treebuzz post, that would be be fine with me.

Best regards for 2015, Greg”

I used two small rings the same size as I want to see how well that works before I invest any further in X-Rings. I'm not bothered about the sling being retrievable at the moment.

We used them yesterday for the first time on a Beech that required some crown reduction work away from buildings and I was pleasantly surprised at the results, we were removing relatively light/medium Beech limbs using 13mm rigging line, the guy on the ground was just using his hands (with leather rigging gloves) to lower the branches, he was saying it felt similar to natural crotching but smoother with the added benefit of being able to pull the branch back up easier if got caught up on the way down.

I bought Antals as I didn't know X-Rigging Rings were available in the UK, I think there is one arb supplier called Treekit (who I'd never heard of before) who sells X Rigging Rings specifically. I was told you sell them via Freeworker in Germany. I don't buy any of my arb gear direct from mainland Europe and I never would either. I'll always give my trade to UK based companies. The vast majority of UK climbers would never buy from Germany or Mainland Europe. It may look close geographically but it's a million miles away culturally.

You need to speak to these people, the main players in UK arb supply - FR Jones, Skylands, Honey Brothers, Gusharts, Clark Forest, Treeworker, Buxtons, otherwise I suspect you'll find a few more people like me just buying Antals because it's more convenient. You need to get X Rigging Rings direct into these suppliers and you'll give yourself a better opportunity to make good sales in the UK, people will buy them, both separately and combined with slings.

TC,
Exciting and very informative response. I figured you were going to say you lived near a marine store and so you just bought a few out of convienece. Didn't realize u were in the UK either. Yes TreeKit in the UK is carrying the XRRs.
Learned a lot from you, I had no idea UK people didn't like to buy from the mainland of Europe. What about business between business; do they mind doing that? We can continue this over private messaging maybe, quite boring to others likely.
