Our truck and chipper got rear ended and totaled the chipper, beat up the truck. Looking at replacing the chipper now. Would prefer the Bandit but can't find too many in my range. Found a nice sounding and looking Altec DC1217 for sale. Don't know much about these though. Any thoughts? Would prefer a drum after having the disc and renting a drum but we will have to see. Right now just need to get replaced so I can work again. As I thought, fun dealing with insurance, not wanting to give me much.....

Also, anyone dealt with Barth Equipment? Good or bad?

They have a lot of Morbark too. Anything to avoid. I've used vermeer and friends bandit in the past. No experience with other models.

Anyone who doesn't have a rental policy on your insurance, I would highly reccomend it. We had an little accident with our truck and our policy covered a replacement unit for the time the truck was in the shop or they would pay for lost income. Well worth the 300$ a year extra!!!!
 
Altec DC 1217 is a decent chipper pretty much the same as a woodchuck. The price seems a little high(on the website) a buddy picked one up for $9000.00 a while back. It's not a tree eating beast, but a moneymaker for sure.
 
Thanks fellas. We do have insurance and they are going to reimburse us but of course starting out pretty low to replace the chipper. For us, most that are in our range are out of state, which is what I had to do for first one. Also buying a used one and don't want to get it then put alot of money into it. With ours we have replaced all major components on ours so don't want to get back into that if I can avoid it. They are supposed to reimburse for time down and what have you but we'll see how that goes. We've been limping along so getting some stuff done...Going to the Bandit dealer today just to look at new ones and see what we can afford. Hate going into debt but would sure be nice to have a new one!
