alpine stumpgrinder?

EXCELLENT! We own a few and they are worth their weight in gold. We run both the 3120, and the TS760 versions. 3120 is more powerful, 760 takes more of a beating. I heard rumors of a kit for the 880 coming?
 
I;ve got the 3120 unit and it was my only grinder for 5 years. Not a bad purchase but definitely not a production machine. Easy to take along for 1 or 2 stumps about 20" or less. Also you can break them and it takes a while to get parts on the east coast. I would recommend the 3120 model but depending on your set up and production schedule won't over look a hydraulic machine either. did any of that help??? Great unit for the right situations. I think that is what I mean.
 
Ordered one about 8 weeks ago.

Should be in any day now. We opted for the Stihl 880 powerhead. Real excited to try it. Bought it brand new purly because of bostonbulls praises.

I have to say, that thing looks like a late night TV info mercial.

I'm impressed with all the positive feedback, it has me interested now.

I have an 880 that doesn't get many hours and I wouldn't mind it getting used more.

family tree, let us know how it works after you have used it for a while. So, is the one you ordered a newly released 880 kit?

X. Yes it's a brand new model. It takes a bunch of mods that I'm not smart enough or mechanically inclined to do myself. They are doing it for us.

I Believe BB has done it himself if you're looking for particulars.
 
I was suspect of the grinder till these responses as well.

A friend's story on an 880 is he blew one up with only 20 hours on it. The reason suspected was lack of use and the fuel getting old in it. So run it dry before you put it away or put a short bar on it and use it more. He owned it long enough for the warranty to expire so it cost him a $600 rebuild.

He also used it only for ripping which is the same continued full throttle application as the grinder would be. Maybe this isn't what they like either?
 
Keep the teeth SHARP, and the Belt tight. Order the jig for sharpening to get a good idea while you are learning or keep a new tooth to hold up against the one you are sharpening to make sure you have the correct relief on the back side of the tooth. You will figure it out as after you do it a few times.

Hey Andy,
Did I ever tell you about the motorcycle stump grinder Mark M built in the early nineties? No lie, the back wheel was where the cutter wheel went and he had to get it up through the gears before he could grind. He claims he made it through a stump but only one. I have pictures of the beast somewhere. A motorcycle stump grinder thread is in order...let me look

I don't know why they show it with big stumps, market it for the little stuff that you don't want to pull or trailer a stump grinder to.

or have on hand on a truck for the little unexpected stump the customer might add.

looks okay for bush stumps and small trees.

In reality, a pain in the butt for large stumps.

Why try to market it for all stumps?

I watched all his youtubes on it.

it seems okay.

Boston Bull, do you sell it in your company arborist store?

They are realy great machines, and alow us to grind stumps literally anywhere. Weve ground them on cliffs, swamps, you name it weve ben there grinding a stump with this thing. Weve had guys on hillsides so steep they were tied in while stump grinding with an Alpine.

No we do not carry them. They are great people to deal with though.

We got our alpine stump machine in the other day. I took a few pictures of it being torn down and built back up for you folks that like to see the guts of things. I'll try to post pictures later but most likely I'll have them on my Facebook page a lot sooner then I'll have them on here (I hate actually using a computer now and Treebuzz doesnt have an app for my iPad/iPhone yet. Hint hint)
 
Uploaded a few pictures of the tear down on my Facebook account (this antibiotic is tearing me up so I'm spending a lot of time on the John)

More photos to come of the build. I was sick and didn't take step by step photos of the build but it's pretty self explanatory when you see the finished products.

The instructions where amazingly easy to follow and all tools came with it except for the 13mm wrench and a 10mm wrench. It took me longer to build an ikea dresser then it did this machine and I'm not the most mechanically inclined person
