All gear tech cord as whoopie?

Stealing an idea I saw off JesseHuffmans video here the other day, adjustable whoopie as a ring/ring or ring/pulley friction saver.

All gears directions on an eye n eye are different from tenex so just wanted to get thoughts on doing it in a similar fashion. Would a locking brummel and a fid of full bury be sufficient for the eye, and same for the back splice, a fid of bury on that too?

Should I just call knot n rope and get their thoughts on it? I've got 3/8 tenex I could use too, but the tech cord seems like it can save me just that little extra bit of bulk.

Thanks!

What tech cordage are you using? Make sure you double check what the cordage is made from. The ring or whatever you have on the adjustable end can float causing some self abrasion like has been seen with some of the bridge recalls. I constructed one and rocked it on and off for a while. Again to be honest I wouldn't recommend using the tech cord if it's the tech vec.

If it is the one like Ice Tail I don't see why not. Again as PUC said, the floating ring can be a problem so you might want to swap it out for a biner and girth hitch it.

Also be very sure to tie a stopper in the tail. I was using a whoopie as a false crotch for a short TIP in my basement and as my daughter swung (100#) it would creep.

Technora is a 'self abrasive' fiber. If a hardware 'link' is in the system, it will self abrade the fibers.
DON'T use technora for that application, or for any 'life-support' system with a hardware link in it.
Polyester (Tenex) is a much wiser choice.

I agree with Norm on the tenex but I still don't fully grasp the technora issues.

Friction hitches are attached to biners all the time and Icetail is a preferred technora rope for that purpose. I do get the bridge issues and the rolling back and forth that can weaken the fibers.

Perhaps the icetail and biners are more readily observed?

I think one thing with the eye and eyes are that they get worn out much quicker from the friction on the rope that you're not going to use it for the life as you would a bridge or something to that effect. I have been playing around with the all gear loop line for this application and have some that are heading off to be break tested and to play around with and I will let you know.

Well it's not quite as compact as the 5/16 cord but certainly alot less bulky than my 6' AFS I haul around now. Too bad my pinto pulley and new revolvers are spending the night at the post office tonite! :-(

Giving it a shot tomorrow in some small stuff and can make a comparison vs the revolver and addition of the pinto. That 1/4" amsteel shoelace is looking pretty good though, trying to tighten up the amount of crap hanging off my saddle. If I can stuff it in a ditty bag, all the better!
