Aerial Drones Anyone?

A surreal video by Ace Tree. Those guys seem to be first with much of their camera work ideas. Im surprised nobodies mentioned or posted this in the video forum already:

Exactly Reg, their other video I thought was incredible was this one:

I feel so small after watching these videos! ACE is AWESOME.

The non-arborist perspective to video creation is interesting. Our graphic design/marketing folks and I sat down a while ago for some brainstorming. I brought examples of course care of YouTube. Their comment - "why are tree removal videos the priority, and why do Arborists try to make the videos "epic" as if they were cutting down the worlds last tree?"

I found their non-arborist perspective intriguing.

If they walked in our shoes maybe they would understand, but they don't. Its an epic occupation and guys try to convey that message.. I agree more pruning vids would be cool ..see trees transform . show some righteous pruning to some Jerry Garcia!

The problem with pruning videos is all you really see is a guy jumping around the tree with a few larger limbs coming out. Sure you could do some cut ins to show the bigger limbs being lowered out, maybe a couple swings and limb walks, but in general it just isn't as dramatic as a removal.

I have a video of an Elm where we removed the dead and broken limbs, made soon after I got my gopro. The video is just a distant shot of the whole tree, and I sped up the footage to show how we move around the tree etc. It is something good for clients to see, and get an understanding of, but it is not going to go viral. To someone that is not an arborist, it would probably be pretty boring. I would think most pruning videos would be the same, without heavy editing and dramatic flair.

I see gopro is coming out with what everybody seems to like to call drones , but looks like badass four bladed RC helichoppers, saying 500 to 1000$ and launching in the spring , I'm sure somebody can post it up here , I don't care to know how really ,but if I did learn I'd be happy. I still think a gopro on a balloon controlled by access throw lines would be legit Instead of 1000 bucks .And Santa if your out there listening please bring me a gopro!
