I'm on my way to look at what so far seen a like a pretty nice, used forestry set up well maintained, aerial lift of Connecticut , 60', 7.6L diesel. What are some key points of concern I've already been researching and probably have most things jotted down, but trying to hit all points. Things like hours on truck, tire wear ,records, etc ... but what other things should I look at that I, as a guy whole has user a bucket very little , look for structurally, etc... I have my partner with me who's an excellent mechanic , so that side we have a decent leg up, but the rest. .. I've got about 2 hours before I get to look at it. Thanks all , and yes I know be a is better, we're just a small growing company.

Consider the conditions of the frame, transmission, hoses, etc.

7.6 sounds Ford & Old?

What the truck?

It's an International 4700DT the hoses on the boom were changed out 2 years ago, but that being a up longevity question. I've been told and will verify that the truck shifts smooth and as it should.

A DT466?

Yeah, Golden.

I <3 Farmalls.

What transmission?

Unsure if air or not on brakes, under cdl, buy we both have CDL with plenty of endorsements. I believe it's the 366, don't know transmission yet, just know it's a 6 speed that's one question on my list .
I've been told the aerial lid of Connecticut booms ate bomb proof and super awesome to use. Boom has had ANSI and dielectric test done every year since new and is current.

Sorry, it's an '01 97,000 miles, but I haven't found out hours on her yet just know it was used all local and didn't get too much highway use. Did say that at 50mph, it has a slight shimmy that goes away at 55 and its the only range anything ever feels off they never drove it much on highway he never put much thought into it says tires are all worn in even pattern , nothing uneven or sloping to one side gonna look at kingpins for sure and other in the front end.

A 2001 is either going to be a DT444/ 7.3 navistar or a DT466.

Considering you said 7.6, that leans to a DT466.

I’d much rather have the DT466.

There are 2- 6 speeds:
1. Straight 6 speed
2. 6+1

Both are great transmissions with the 6+1 being even more desirable.

Those transmissions do away with the need for a 2 speed rear end.

As far as the shimmy, that could be tires, front end wear, balancing weight fell off the driveline, etc.

Those trucks are way more mechanic friendly than the new ones & if all checks out, I would encourage going after them.

Well that's all good news becau Dr it is the DT466, 6+1, assuming the 1 is L too, it ran great, bucket as smooth, couple fairly small issues, but overall a nice truck, everything worked, key things had been done within last years , current inspection all around I flew it for a bit and was fine and comfortable in it we decided to buy it hopefully have it all seen up by weeks end.

Look for the mark from a missing wheel balancing weight, or total absence of weights on the rim.

The originals were 4 speeds.

In the late 1970s they went to 5 speeds.

Then 6 speeds.

6+1 is an overdrive.

Did u already buy? Looks like a nice setup, tried and true. Def want to find out engine hrs. Would be worth sending engine oil samples to be analyzed. Depending what company has already been certifying it , could be worth having the lift inspected by an ALC expert. Easy to get excited but between the truck and the lift you could easily have 2-3 x the purchase price into one of these old trucks before it's even paid off. Ask me how I know. Tires are pocket change compared to some of the stuff.

I have this truck for sale! I just needed it to finish a large contracted job. We have been using it all winter. I need to get rid of it only because I can not have more than 5 trucks in our yard and I have to make room for some new stuff coming in. Let me know if your interested. I am pretty open to offers at this point. Its been a supper reliable truck. Your not going to win any races. But it starts everyday and gets to the job...guaranteed.

7.3 Liter Diesel
58 feet boom
low miles
Tires are good
boom is very smooth
Plenty of space for tools
Boxes are water tight
Standard with a split rear end.
I'm sure there are other good things I did not mention. If you think of something just ask.
