Aborist Certification

This may be an extremely stupid question but Is the title "arborist" only given out by the ISA? I recently went through my arborist line clearance certification through ACRT and got a card stating I'm a " Certified Line Clearance Arborist". I have not yet passed my ISA Arborist certification. I do not want to use a title I do not yet deserve. Can anyone clarify?

By MY definition, anyone can really call themselves an "arborist", as such as anybody can be a mechanic or a plumber. There are good ones, and bad ones of every trade, whether licensed or certified or not.

To be a "Certified Arborist" requires the backing of a certifying authority; such as the ISA or MAA (my state organization... most states have their own) and the following of particular rules in its usage... ie "Certified Arborist #ISA-NE-1412", or "Massachuetts Certified Arborist #214", etc.

In YOUR case, if you call yourself an "ACRT Certified Line Clearance Arborist", you're stating exactly what credential you earned.

No sweat.

Nice going on the ACRT sticker, also a lot of their materials will help you if you test for the ISA certification. I probably refer to the ACRT manuals during new guy training more than anything else on hand.

The way you misspelled arborist in the subject made me giggle. When I first made up my business cards, the lady that was helpin me out spelled it just like that with out the 'r' and i didnt notice at a glance and handed out like 150 of them before I noticed.... I dont know how many people picked up on it, but I still considered myself an aRborist if that helps any... people in vermont kinda say it like that anyways so whatever.
If you take care of trees for a living then you're an arborist!
