A tragedy.

Took down this oak over the last 2 days with the help of the owner and my friend / boss who owed me a favor. It was a real tragedy to see it go.

Pretty good health wise, some minor dead wood here and there. Would have been beautiful if pruned and maybe cabled. Now I'm just trying to give it as good of an ending as possible (turning to lumber, not firewood or trash pile)

Too much of a mess, too close to the house. Everybody but him wanted to keep it, just prune it. He wanted it down, so he got his way. I was there one day and his brother said to keep it, just prune the thing. His wife made her wishes VERY clear. I made my opinions very clear. My buddy who helped us today said even after seeing only a part of the tree still in tact it would have been better off being pruned and cabled.

At least it wasn't a low impact removal. I could only imagine what the crane bill would have been /forum/images/graemlins/bling.gif

I dislike it when short term residents make such big decisions about the long term residents. If its unhealthy or dangerous then ok, lets talk removal but for leaf litter and the homeowners feeling that it was "too close to the house" (for what? an airplane to fit between?) its a shame to see the bigger trees get cut down.

Would have cost bugger all to install some gutter guard to keep the leaves out.

Just today i had to bid on a gum tree that was apparently blocking the radio signal from base to base radio at an industrial premise. The two bases are less than 1km as the crow flies apart and in direct line of sight except for the tree.

The customer's geek wizzard said it was definately the tree causing the problem. I suggest raising the aerial to what ever it took to prove the point that it was not the tree but most likely 2 sets of dirty great big electricity cables drooping between the two sites from 50m towers.

I also asked why when the system was so new and just installed did they install a system that was incompatible for the location as it needed clear line of site??? What a load of bull, in this day and age, that would be neglegence by the aerial/radio mob. I also asked what if you cut the tree down and the problem persists, will the geeks pay not only for the removal of the tree but the equivalent for replacement of an equal sized one?

It's a wierd planet. /forum/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I like to work, and to get jobs. I enjoy being able to support my family. If my concious gets to bothering me, I make sure to plant trees to replace those that I cut down.

BTU's can be found in junk trees, and trees in the way of development. Work can be found processing same. If I had to cut down trees like that in order to eat, it'd be time to tighten the belt and move on.

A missed educational opportunity--he won't know what he had til it's gone, or til his A/C blows out from strain. That happened to a neighbor of mine who cut down 2 oaks in his yard cuz he was tired of raking. I laughed in his face, the moron.

Trees generally always loose, you fight for them till your blue in the face. Its right nice when the clients light bulb comes on, and they move the house back, or skip the addition, live with the exposed roots, LEAVES! oh my gosh!. Seems theres fewer wins then loss's though. Good thing theres Arborist's or trees would Always Loose!

I think there were gutter guards on the house already, prior to the tree being taken down.

It's in Buchanan, which isn't too far from the Hudson river.

I'd love to have something like that in my yard too. Good rec climbing tree... or dare I say climbing competition tree?

I'll tell you this much though, that tree did NOT want to come down. The first day I was there, for the prune... I chickened out because a branch broke while I SRT'd up, and I didn't have the right gear. Second day I went there, the oil cap came off on my MS200 on the way up in the morning. During the course of the limb removal, a couple branches got hung up because I was told by the owner (who use to climb trees) to leave branches that were right in the way of a nice LZ. Third day I went there, something else happened which I won't mention. Now I am having troubles getting the logs picked up, because they had a death in the family, and just a bunch of other BS.

Nice pics of the tree. It was a shame to see it go down. In other places of the world there are little kids out there making money cleaning up leaves. Hey that is a thought maybe hire someone to clean up the leaves and keep the tree. I ran into the same thing with my satillite provider, he told me one of the walnut trees had to come down to put up a dish on my parents house. All I saw was drool and money signs in this guys head( oooh Black Walnut oooooh). I took the job to prune the tree and tell him to move the placement of the dish. I won and well now I come up with the kiddies and pic walnuts and rake leaves, then shoot the poop with the folks und a tree.

this guy just bought this house and property i looked at it almost a year ago when the last owner passed away. that tree wasn't in bad shape and remember seeing it being taken out really was a shame i now live directly across the lake from this house and can see it from my property

So your father is the guy who lives across the street from John and Sandy? What a small world. You're right, the tree was in good shape. I also was the one who took out the oak and the beech from the front yard... those I had no problems with removing. The big oak out back though... that should have stayed. The beech however should have been removed.
