I dont want to derail Softbankhanks's Trunk Belay thread anymore than I already have but I would like to discuss this more with those who are interested.

countryboy pointed out the sideloading of the biner so this isnt going to work. Crazy I didnt realize that.....

What I am looking for is a FAST set up that allows the rescuer/climber to be lowered to the ground and will mkae the judges happy as far as being backed up.

aside from the biner issue...I geuss my biggest concern would be the system sliding up the spar.

I will take a picture for Blinky since his internet connection is from the stoneage.
 
would girth hitching it be much slower than the biner? Just make sure to keep your hand on the working end of the sling with your prussiks and put it though the large eye when you go to put it around the trunk.

I wouldn't worry too much about it sliding up the trunk of the tree. Having it girth hitched would cinch down on the trunk and provide pressure.

Has anyone had a trunk wrap like this slide up when using it?
 
why not a figure eight with with a mule knot? attach a whoopie sling to the trunk and roll out

I do have a big adjustable whoopie sling but its been used for rigging so thats out. That and a mini porty is what Odis suggested to me. Thanks Jeff

I took it off beacuse it could be unsafe since I was sideloading the biner. Here is one I did today.

I exchanged the biner for a aluminum ring as suggested by RangerDanger....What do you guys think?
 
A dead eye sling is a better option than a whoopie in my mind. Mainly because it doesn't require as much rope to anchor to a large trunk. Just less gear to lug around.

I like the trunk wrap method Tom D has shown, but the side load on the carabiner has always bothered me. I use a 50kN ISC biner to ease my mind.
 
Don't see any problems with that! Looks good.

Glad your able to keep in mind others safety as well as your own, and change it up slightly.
