I really don't compete with those crews for most of my business. I think that's the key. I position myself with professional literature, an online image and by assessing property owner's trees and helping them to mitigate future issues they may have with them.

Additionally, I build relationships with potential customers. I aim to impress them enough when quoting that they wouldn't consider hiring an inexperienced tree business to do the work on which I've quoted. My potential customers know a crew like the one above would have no idea how to do what I have explained I would be doing.

Figured I should finish up a broken thought
why the head shake anyway?? I would think shake my hand and give a helping hand would serve all better than a head shake I'm assuming it was this one. Just because a tire guy wants to be a tree guy. I mean can you blame them ? Tree work isn't always easy ,but wrestling tires all day has got to be boring and suck way hard compardd to swinging around in beautiful trees. Maybe teaching/helping these new to tree work guys could be an avenue to setup for some climbing work through them , all the while teaching them the value of trees our assets and how to safely embark on this journey. Turn this into that ...maybe??

There's at least 75 tree outfits in our area. When I was still advertising in the yellow pages 8 yrs. ago I had a 3/4 page ad in one of the five books in our county - it was 12 pages back from the front of the section. These numbers don't even include pickup trucks or even the occasional car trunk that keep prices dragging the bottom. At least your new crew has spent some money on equipment so maybe the overhead will keep their prices up

It is quite a nice place that's for sure. Love it here. Maaaaaany tree companies though. Everyone seems to do pretty well though.
