A few minutes on a willow prune

Nothing too exciting here but climbing in a beautiful tree. I shot a ton of cam video the next day double roping the same tree and... bam, my lousy old Contour cam decided not to record anything ;-)

Willow is crazy wood, soft and weak and yet tenaciously fibrous, snap cuts require a subtle touch. Notice when I'm doing the collar cut in the vid, that hand saw is not dull and yet was like working through oak deadwood, when I set the branch free a few inches above the collar it was like butter.

I like your saw stowing technique. Very deliberate care as you move your arm back beyond the climb line towards the scabbard.

Willows are fascinating to me. I want to watch a stop motion video of one growing so I can fully comprehend how something so whispy can become so large and upright.
