9/16 Atlas or Polydyne/Dynasorb?

Getting one or the other this weekend, pros/cons from people who have used both?
Atlas- Smaller diameter, tighter jacket, harder to splice, super durable.

Polydyne- Stretchy, durable, easy to splice.

Personally I love the Atlas. Not my favorite to splice (all my rigging lines are spliced since I like the speed of using splices vs tying knots constantly during rigging operations) but I love the tight jacket, compatibility with the GRCS, and how it just doesn’t ever want to die. I eventually retire ropes more out of fear than because the rope starts looking like crap.

I’ve had very positive experiences with polydyne but the how the Atlas handles is what sells it to me.

I have not used polydyne but I have used the Atlas and it is a tough wearing rope but I found it to milk a lot. Other than that it’s good stuff. Firm jacket, stays round, good energy absorption, and retention for preloading pull lines.

I’ve used both, and like Atlas as well. It’s been hard to find lately though, so we have been using Double Esterlon pretty happily lately instead.

I use the half inch atlas haven't used the polysorb, the atlas is an awesome rope comfortable in the hands, knots well and runs like a champ on the grcs. My 9/16 ropes I use the notch kraken, it's just a tougher harder sheath still knots well but holds up to serious abuse like dragging logs with a truck better.

In my opinion, the biggest choice should be price. Both are fantastic! Polydyne is very forgiving to the climber if the ground help is less than stellar. That said, atlas is quite forgiving as well. Polydyne has a somewhat higher mbs if that matters to you.

Ordered 200’ 9/16 atlas from Maple Leaf Ropes for $218. I have well worn 150’ 5/8 polydyne so it’ll be interesting to compare. Both Maine ropes so can’t go wrong. Thanks for the replies!
@MapleLeafRopes any chance of you guys making more of this stuff in smaller diameter https://www.mapleleafropes.com/stor...id-bull-rope-urethane-coated-supple-hd-coated

I bought some of it in 1/2” a couple years ago, and am very happy with it, I’d love to get some of it in 9/16” or 5/8”

Sorry I missed this somehow! We have changed the blend of the urethane and increased the strength of the polyester material but currently only have it in stock in 1/2": https://www.mapleleafropes.com/store/category/polyester-high-tenacity-double-braid-coated-bull-rope

We should have 9/16", 5/8" and 3/4" back in stock in that particular rope towards the beginning of 2023. They got bumped out of the way to make room for a new Polyester 12x2 strand we have coming out for our slings. Glad to hear its working so well for you.

We also should have Yale Portland Braid in stock soon, likely Samson Stable Braid as well. This is in addition to the All Gear Husky bull rope that has been our go to for quite a while. Of course there are other non coated options as well.
