I'm new to taking off the cover and i've about destoryed the end of one of my bee-lines. I know there has to be a smiple way to cutting it off. I have sharp sisscors but can't find a safe way of getting it off and not damaging the core. Thanks in advance in the smiple idea.
You should be able to simply cut the rope, slip the cover back a little, grab the core and pull it out a ways. If the opposite end is also cut, the core should easily slip all the way out.
Are you trying to remove a core from something that's already spliced?
hrmm I might be over thinking it. I mesaured an eye and eye I have from Sherrill for the lenght. it came out to be 28 inches, plus the 6 inches for the bury, gives you a 40 inch peice of bee line.
What I'm not sure about is the extra cover milked into the center of the rope? when you pull it back it gets alot bulkier than when you start. I could do the splice but I have a certain lenght in mind and I was under the impression that the diameter didn't change too much from an unspliced rope to a spliced rope.
Maybe I'll take a picture or two to give you can idea what I'm thinking and maybe I'm way off.
I generally take the cover all the way off, splice the core and then pull the core back into the cover using a wire. You have to milk it a bit but the Vectran is so smooth it works out.
When you bury, the outside piece gets shorter. A good estimate is by about a third... remember, that's just the part that's getting stuffed with un-tapered rope. When I was doing bridges I was trying to hit very exact lengths and it took a couple of tries to get my measurements right.
