Does Yale not recommend splicing this any more? I can't find splicing instructions for it. could anyone could provide a link or instructions for the naked eye splice?

There are no official published directions to splice 5/16 beeline or HRC. Here are the directions that have been told to me by the manufacturers last I checked (which would have been about a year ago).

Cut rope to length, strip cover from core. Set cover aside.

Splice a locking brummel for each eye in the core. Bury approx a 6" tail with the last 2" tapered.

Measure length from the base of 1 eye to the base of the other. Cut cover to that length (masking tape where the cuts will be to prevent raveling).

Slip cover back over core, whip cover in place at the throat of each eye. If you want to know what it should look like, just look over there <---

Eyes should be dipped in something so they don't gets ravelled and frayed over time.

Now there are several ways to accomplish the same thing. What I do for me and my customers is NOT what I explain here. My personal directions are more complicated to explain, end with the same overall measurements, but yield, in my opinion, a more perfectly balanced cover/core.

Do those directions make sense?

yes i think they do. when putting the cover back on what is the most effective way to do this? put a wire fid through the cover and hooking one end of the core to pull it through, or is the cover braid loose enough to just slip over the top?

I use the needle and whipping twine.

Feed twine through needle
Hold jacket vertical
Drop needle down center of jacket
Shake as needed
Tie bowline thru eye
Pull back

Just used it 10 min ago and worked great. you shoud have this stuff handy, seeing as though you next step will be whipping it. Watch the knot in the twine its covered in like a wax I think. it could start to slip, leave a tail.

Are 8mm Beeline and 10mm Beeline spliced the same way or are they different all together. I thought I heard they were different but named the same or something like that. Thanks

I was a bit lazy with that post. I was reading what everyone had to say and had a minor question that was easily answered right after I posted with the help of actually looking at the products. My mistake...
