880 on a saddle ??

How do some of you guys hang your big saws on your saddle? When I have to use our 880 up in the tree it looks like its going to rip my TM in half. I use the Carry Tool to attach my saws but it sure looks like its pulling hard on that Saddle. Any thoughts or pictures or is this how everyone else does it on there TM?

Thanks Sam-i-am

I wouldn't hang that on a cari-tool. I've been using a paddle biner, the cari-tool bends open with my 440 if the gate opens.

I use a BFII though and the paddle is lashed into the webbing, no way it will come off. I've never needed a saw that big up high though, I ain't got the azz for it anyway.

I don't imagine the 880 is needed more than a couple times a season. But if your making many cuts say blocking down something big you could leave room with your lanyard for the block your cutting off and the start of the next cut lower and leave the saw stuck halfway through the cut till you reposition. That way it's never hanging on you. It's been called double block bucking. I couldn't link the vid but if you google double block bucking you'll find it off another forum.

According to what I know (and it ain't much)

Any saw weighing more than 15 pounds is supposed to have it's own dedicated line.

Would I put that thing on my hip? No. I'd work the crap out of a 460 with a big bar on it though. Then again, here in south jersey, I don't deal with many 880 trees which I why mine stays dormant and remains one of the more stupid purchases of my climbing career

Its more for making those nice finall cuts our 460 only has a 26in bar on it so its not to offen I need it up in the tree. Very few times have I used it for chunking wood down with it, but man is it fun taking big wood out with it.

you should get an ergovation instead of the TM

We have a drill that we use for cabling that is older than I am (Im 23), and honest to god it weights just about 30 pounds. Its such a F**king boat anchor! But with my ergo, it feels fine hanging on my hip. I want to replace the drill sooo bad but the damn thing wont die. It just keeps going.

Anyways, you could hang another line in the tree for the big saw. Or tie it off to the tree, or just keep struggling. Best of luck

hang it in the tree or hold it like a little baby in your arms. i like leaving it in the kerf(borealitey) or send it up send it down. whatever it takes.

use suspenders on the TM belt and now worries....
I just clip it in my big Petzl carytool and it holds well. (I've clipped it upside down on my belt and that works really well)

Most off the time I use the MS640 in the gigger trees but sometimes about once or twice a year the MS880 has to go up ;-)

But even with suspenders the most ugly part off sawing with this big saws on spurs is to get the first entry cut right without letting the saw slip.....

climb safe

I've never needed anything bigger than a 660 in a tree and that hangs off my belt just fine on the same lanyard my 200t goes on. I don't use a caritool though, plastic garbage imo.

I make my own saw hangers with some smith rod a torch and a vise ... I make the curve enough to hold the handle on my biggest saws ... if entirely uncomfortable I have hung big saws off branches or trunks ....

Happy Birthday Sam.

When I've got a big saw in the tree, I often hang it from the ring on my bridge. The weight of the saw hangs on my climbing line (which is attached to the spar via false crotch) instead of my harness.

I spoke with TLHamel at TCI in Pittsburgh about the TM and how it handled a large saw and he suggested hanging the saw off of my climbing system. This technique has really worked well for me and it means my rope is carrying the weight and not pulling my harness down. Thanks Taylor.

Ha ha, I'm slow at typing. You beat me to it!

I like the suggestion for 'double bucking'. I has happy when someone showed me that trick. Not always practical and I have to block down a big Fir occasionaly with my 395 (that is a husqvarna, you know?). Hang it off my Glide II and it is heavy. I hang my 372 off my saddle all the time.
