THANK for sharing i fractured my wrist 12months ago, was back at work after six but only now getting back to were i was before the event.
i dont think i will be 100% for another 6 months.
hang in their and get back in the trees.

Collisions with neighboring trees and within the same tree do carry the same risks. And taking the work in several pieces isn't always an option either. I agree on both counts.

I have a number of helmet cam clips that show exactly what's been tossed around here. In the past we just called it a "Bad Bounce" And indeed there is more than one reason behind it all.

would using an angle no more than 30 degrees in scarf, cutting side fibres and high speed in back cut help to stop the butt comming back at you?

On a long limb that is vertical in nature a humboldt notch is the way to go, cut into the back cut at top speed and cut right through as the limb goes over.
It will land flat or heavy on the butt.
The limb also jumps away from the climber due to the sloping angled cut on the bottom.

Just wanted to say thanks for all of your encouragement and thoughts on the situation! My position as a main climber has been filled and the boss isn't going to pay 3 climbers. And I understand. I feel like I'm no longer a "top" climber I feel like a beginner again. I have to build up to that point again.
In the mean time I'm running estimates for a friends company.

Mad props to the guys that performed the aerial rescue. We train for it, and hope never to use it but hopefully for you, it didn't take long to get decisive action going and a solid team effort from the ground. Having an emergency access line is always good, one reason Im like accessing via Srt, but if not, atleast having a back up set of climb gear close to the sight, and ready to roll rather than locked up in the truck tuckered away is always worth a small peice of mind too. Sound like they knew what to do. Mad props to them and you...
