7.3 L diesel

Sorry dude but I think the dealer doing the job on a 2001 for $1600 is the one getting raped. On a 2001 the engine is so far under the cowl that to pull the engine you have to remove the whole front of the truck or pull the cab off the truck. On the earlier body style you can pull the engine straight up in a conventional manner. That is around a $1600-$1800 job. And of course you can do it alot cheaper yourself, if you have 2 days to kill.

My 6.9 IDI in the F350 has more miles than you'd believe, and it's been plowed HARD. Still runs pissah. Can't speak for the automatics they threw behind them; mine is a 4 speed. Changed the clutch at 190,000.

The Duramax is a nice engine, and the Allison is sweet. But watch out for the electronics... they SUCK DOG BALLZ. I know more than a few with "random" electrical issues.

I've got the same engine in an 87 4x4 4speed with 100,000 miles. Great engine! Sounds like a sewing machine, LOL!

remember. they run forever IF AND ONLY IF MAINTAINED!!

I had a 1999 and it had 125K on it and the injdctor pump went out.

it sucked. SUPER expensive to fix. 3500-4k from what I remember.

teh truck only cost 12k.

I chuncked it and got another.

Same exact truck... '87 F350 4X4. Bet yours in in better shape, though; between plowing and sanding, the cab on mine is about toast. Actually going to do a cab swap in the spring, if I can find one in better shape.
