$550 a day climbers

I called and met with John. Seems like a legit deal. Everyone has to go through an orientation before working, will be attending that Monday January 4, I'll keep everyone posted. Got all my safety gear, etc all dialed in and finished some other work we had the last two weeks so I'm good to go....

A week and no updates?! Are people getting abducted and turned out? Didn't someone think to take a phone with them? I need answers.

If this is really happening, I can take out every saw from a 200T to the 660, all even numbers, no silly 201 or 441's.. And don't worry about the emissions, the fire was worse.

Okay, let us know. Are these checks getting cashed?

Can I take some time off each afternoon to get a team of toads ready to compete in the Calaveras County Jumping Frog Jubilee?

I did my time out there and I know several buzzers on the project right now with daytime highs in the 50s I'm a little jealous. The money is real, checks cashed, but the organizational system they're using would drive any man insane. It's like there's this big bucket of money at the top then it has to trickle down through many tiers of subcontractors before it finally gets to the worker bees, who are not encouraged to be productive but rather just follow a ton of rules and don't make ANY mistakes like get a bandaid or wipe out a primary or something.

Even with the BS and confusion I would do it again - good way to pay the bills when MN turns cold, minus 7 here tonight, guess I'll be California dreamin...

Sounds interesting for someone who is not busy this time of the year. I've looked at these types of jobs in the past and found that if I stayed local and put in the same effort I'd come out further ahead.

What is the cost of accommodation and food out there?

If I were single though, this would be a great way to spend the winter. Good luck to all who go and be safe!

Eric,

Is the situation there much different than our time in NOLA?

Very similar, except the trees aren't as scary. Those big rotten salt killed pines were pretty bad. The fire killed trees out west are mostly solid unless already compromised by Mountain Pine Beetles, and the setting is rural so not so many targets and civilians to manage.
