30 foot taper?

Day dreaming top rigging friction and was wondering what are the possibilities for a smooth 30 foot taper? A tapered filler in a hollow braid, or could a machine add a strand at a time? I haven't thought it through how a long taper would perform but I'd guess it might be a smooth brake. Could start with a let er run 15 feet to taper or something.

Maybe instead of one long taper, there could be a series of shorter ones, or maybe both?

I was thinking of running it through a top friction device and looking to match the performance of a tended base brake when catching heavy drops from the top. I'd imagine short tapers would make it surge and buck. You'd almost need a selection of different lengths and thicknesses for different weights or an adjustable preset friction device.
