Been splicing up a storm lately,

for the 1/2" 3 strand splice I followed new englands rope to chain splice, tenex tec followed sampsons eye n eye splice with a #2 boat snap on the dead end. I never really used 3 strand before I learned to splice it and I'm actually a fan. Nice and light durable and easy to splice

looks good! I haven't spliced 3 strand for awhile. Probably not since boy scouts.

3 strand splicing is still alive and widely used. More people should give it a try and see how much fun and useful these splices can be.

[/ QUOTE ] Me either, as I recall it is pretty easy as long as you start the splice neatly. Should get myself some three strand.......

If you do, I would suggest getting directions from Brion Toss in his book, Chapman's Book Of Knots.

Brion's method of starting the first row (or tier) of tucks is very fair and easy to do. Just remember that when you are doing your tucks, lay the strands out in flat ribbons which will make the splice stronger.

I do the first strand twice and the third strand backwards to get it started. It falls in nicely from there.
