3/8" Bee Line Prusik Cord

3/8\" Bee Line Prusik Cord

I've been given a 20' section of 3/8" bee line by yale. Is it spliceable or would it have to have a stiched or knoted eye? Seems like it would be very unpliable if I fed it back into itself.

Re: 3/8\" Bee Line Prusik Cord

Its spliceable, and it makes an awesome hitch cord! I havent spliced my own, but I know theres plenty of guys on here who have.

Re: 3/8\" Bee Line Prusik Cord

My friend Ted (Banjo) spliced a large eye in my 10mm Beeline lanyard, so I can girth hitch and change the clip if desired.

Re: 3/8\" Bee Line Prusik Cord

Yale has stopped splicing it in their factory. It IS spliceable, but has a problem with core herniation.

It's a good cord, but not perfect.

Use their industrial polyester double braid splicing directions...

No it does not! 5/16th beeline is a class 2 db eye splice.
As opposed to the class 1 which is illustrated in the Industrial polyester double braid splicing directions. The splicing directions used for class 2 db eye and eyes used for friction hitchs are highly modified from any instuctions you will find available.

I think this is a bit misleading. Taken at face value of what you wrote, these are the directions one would be using:

Samson's Class II Double Braid Eye Splice Directions

Following these directions, the buried tail would be about 14 inches long. In an eye-eye sling, you'd have the buried tails running pretty much the entire length.

There are no official published directions to splice 5/16 beeline or HRC. Here are the directions that have been told to me by the manufacturers last I checked (which would have been about a year ago).

Cut rope to length, strip cover from core. Set cover aside.

Splice a locking brummel for each eye in the core. Bury approx a 6" tail with the last 2" tapered.

Measure length from the base of 1 eye to the base of the other. Cut cover to that length (masking tape where the cuts will be to prevent raveling).

Slip cover back over core, whip cover in place at the throat of each eye. If you want to know what it should look like, just look over there <---

Eyes should be dipped in something so they don't gets ravelled and frayed over time.

Now there are several ways to accomplish the same thing. What I do for me and my customers is NOT what I explain here. My personal directions are more complicated to explain, end with the same overall measurements, but yield, in my opinion, a more perfectly balanced cover/core.

Do those directions make sense?

Re: 3/8\" Bee Line Prusik Cord

Thank you Nick! I was hoping you would chime in

The instructions are great and I most likely will be useing them when the goodies from knot and rope get here. 1-4 business days. I hate waiting.

Re: 3/8\" Bee Line Prusik Cord

I use 10 mm bee line for my hitches on both arbormaster and rocket line. They are spliced with a class one DB splice in each end and are 25" long. So far I have had no herniation problems. I think the cover braid has been tightened up at the factory since they were having problems a while back.

Re: 3/8\" Bee Line Prusik Cord

We need to check with Yale on that.

Most of the 3/8 beeline I ever spliced never had a problem. Some of it did, though. Maybe you just have some that, for whatever reason, didn't have a prob?

I'll email Yale now.

Ask and ye shall receive. In my response from Jamie at Yale:

...By end of March we SHOULD have a new 3/8 beeline. The 5/16 is staying as is. We may always have the 2 constructions of 3/8. Sewn and spliced.

Re: 3/8\" Bee Line Prusik Cord

Hey Tom and all,
How does that 10 mm beeline hold up for a lanyard? I'm wondering if it would be appropriate to splice in a ring on one side and an eye on the other and make a version of the multisling so I could mess around with that until the ms is readily available.
