I had a friend who helped me in my early days who had extremely long eyelashes and refused to wear glasses cause the lashes brushed against them. Never once did he complain about sawdust in his eyes.
 
Other than chainsaw pants I don’t wear PPE as I like to hear, see, and feel my work environment. Drives some folks on the inter-web crazy, but it’s been working for me for a long time!
